Thank you for your kind words about my poems, Keith. I read yours titled 'the Morass' and find your rhythm and image choice like that of a movie. It all tells a story that's complex but also intuitive. I look forwards to reading more of your works in the future.
All the best,
Adrian

We have to break away from the revolving repetitive sequential events that inevitably end in violent confrontation, by accepting that the EC's example of economic and political cooperation is the only sensible way toward stability in Europe. Our membership of the EU since the early seventies has enriched the quality of life for most of the member states including the UK, together with an accumulated frictionless seventy three years since 1945
The cost of living has risen considerably since the electorate (minds tainted by old fashioned Imperialistic reactionaries) voted to leave last year and will continue to rise, chasing a pipe dream't impractical, isolationist, independent, behind the times, future.
In a country that depends on foreign investment to prop up failing industries. The only successful 100% "british" export to date. Is our language.

Thanks Harry for your wonderfully crafted backup. Is there not time still for us codgers to cobble together some sort of veto against all this madness.

Yes it's a great pity people don't appreciate the many aspects that make up the bigger picture. They are unwittingly fertilizing the growth of intolerance.

Phew! Thankyou for expanding on your earlier comment, Cynthia. I feel hugely reassured!
I'm very grateful that you have taken the time to think deeply about something and then the trouble to put your thoughts out there to be read.
Very much appreciated.
Richard

Just a comment, Richard. In no way a rebuke however gentle or delicious. The word 'orbit' came up in a comment of your own, on another poet's work, or Bio page. And it gave me pause for thought. Partly because I've been a bit sensitive to exactly your point, mulling it over a bit on my own.
I realize interchange between poets can be, or not be, totally private. Yours wasn't. So I didn't feel intrusive; I like to see what other writers have to say about certain poems, or about anything at all.

Hi, Ken,
My worlds a bit mad at the moment so only saw your comment on my prof tonight.
You are absolutely right about your deterrence effect (I always wondered how those Koreans wrought up their courage...now I know - sheer opportunism, as soon as they found out that we were demobbed)
I`ll tell you what as well... If that big fat pig in charge there now ever comes over...well slice him into a million little bits with our pension cards.
Keep the poems coming!

Hello Cynthia
I’m grateful for your comment on my Profile page and appreciate the time and effort you spent in contacting me.
I have a sneaky feeling that I am having my wrist most deliciously slapped – although for the life of me I am unable to work out why!
A pleasurable experience all the same! Thankyou.

Richard, do we have an 'orbit' here on WOL. Maybe we do - but it certainly isn't geographic, deliberately. For awhile it wasn't just the UK. Poets came from the US and Canada and Australia and India and Africa and Europe. And were well received too. Sometimes, English was their second/third/fourth language.
Then, again, maybe 'like' does take to 'like'. And the stalwarts are just that - stalwart. Responsive and regular in their written input, with both poetry and comments. Without a doubt, poetry 'friendships' have developed. And there seems to be an inexorable lean to the North of England writers, with their famous 'one foot in romance and the other in necessity' which pervades the whole society. I have come to greatly appreciate this duality - the essence of 'Northern-ness', a very sharing and brutally honest outlook on life.
Just a thought.

Iesha, I'll try to catch up with more of your work.
I'm sorry a Welcome to WOL is so late. I'm pretty sure I've commented on some of your other poems, but maybe not.
I'm not on site daily. Sometimes only once a week. But I will make an effort.
'merely a moment' indeed. Excellent phrase.

I don't know how I've missed you thus far. I'll really try to catch up. That's an impressive BIO.
Are you trying to look scary in the photo, or just sun-blinded? Or intense and intellectual? Or maybe deeply 'composing'? It's definitely a 'catchy' picture.

Hi Ray, thanks for your feedback on On Leave, encouragement always appreciated. The first line, possibly the last line, belongs to Ernie Pyle, WWII correspondent who, as you may know, was very popular for his companionable, unhyped stories from the front, for the folks back home, who are involved too, of course.
Dom.

Thanks for posting 'Midnight Train to Bulawayo' - I enjoyed it! Were you there in 1997? How long did you stay?
As you know, I grew up in NR/Zambia from 1955 - 75. Last time I was there was in 1971 - a weekend trip to Salisbury for shopping and a new hairdo from Kitwe, on the Copperbelt in Zambia. I spent between 68 - 74 travelling and working between UK and Zambia. Back to Africa every time I got too homesick and saved up for the next trip to UK.
My little brother went to St George's in Salisbury so we'd go down to take him out for a Sunday lunch at Meikles every so often but I only went to Bulawayo twice on the way to SA.
I have added another African poem from my 1968 notebook to my profile... yes, I still have it. Ha-Ha!

Hello MC. Thank you for taking time to comment on my latest poem The Spirit. It has taken me a good while to reach the point when I am in full control of myself after a lifetime of conformity and being controlled. It is in fact remarkably liberating. Thank you again as I always value what you have to say. Keith

Stu, thank you for your recent comment on my latest poem. I understand what you say. Poets seem attracted by human existence and the world about us which provides a good deal to think about. I first approached religion in a rationalistic way. How did this all come to be? Why am I here? Then there is the faith approach of belief with little or no evidence. This path invariably steers people into some kind of institutionalised religious grouping be it Church , Temple or Mosque. I developed a faith but soon could not cope with institutionalised religion as I found it corrupt and controlling. As I apporach the age of seventy I would describe myself as a free thinker with a profound faith but not one determined by others. Thanks again for your comment. Keith

Thanks for the comment. I too went in the army 1948. so we both must have been serving together for a while. What a deterrent we two must have been to the forces of communism. For as soon as I was demobbed the Korean war started.

Hello Cynthia
Thankyou for you kind words - about my poem and my poetry group!
It is great fun having a monthly poetic get-together but I think I'm probably more highly valued as an organiser than as a poet - but hey, I'll take whatever appreciation I'm given in life!
Best wishes.
