I know what you mean about susan boyle, but when I heard Wild Horses on the radio I thought it was joss stone or somebody, not some old bat (sorry - did I say old bat -oops)
anyway, the point is, without knowing who it was, I was amazed. As for Paulino - well, you'r entitled to your opnion - it's not cause he's just a bit of eye-candy is it ?? Noooo.
I mean, I like Jen. Lopez, but I wouldn't say she's the world's greatest singer :)
we can agree about YES

I had one roy harper album - though I was never a massive fan - it stemmed from the groundhogs & led zep who both thought he was god. YES = I still like very much upto close to the edge, but for me it gets too "up yerself" after that (sorry). yes album & fragile are still up there with the best of em.
Paolo Nutella's a bit shite [sorry - I tried to let you down slowly, but you know me :) ]
surprisingly (I guess) susan boyle, avril lavigne, sheryl crowe are a few of those I rate at the moment - but, each to his own.
For me a lot of the worst stuff is the over-earnest worthy worthy worthy male band shit like coldplay, kasabian, franz ferdinand, arctic monkeys,(it's just so effing whiney & lame I feel like telling them all just to shut the F up or they'll get a slap) - yes, I know I'm an opinionated git. Then if you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel, you've got Nickelback... Arrgghh !
someone burn out my ears with redhot pokers PLEEZE. (just a mini-rant)

Hi Andy. Thanks for the kind comment on my poem "The Tall Green Grass". This is one of my husbands favorite poems.
I guess I need to read a lot more poetry to make constructive comments. I don't write a lot of poetry myself.

Thanks
Shirley

Hi John. Yes, I agree with your comments about the real causes of the deficit, that's for sure. As for people in the private sector, well there are many more of them, and maybe they joined it because they thought it was the way to make money than in the public sector. It can be, but only if you're successful. The govt (which to make it more controversial, in cases like this, is referred to as 'the taxpayer' does pay towards public sector pensions because it's the employer, but the public sector workers - certainly me anyway (I'm not a teacher, so they may be different) - pay a lot out of our salary each month towards our pensions, it doesn't just come from the govt. The trouble is, there's no pot - it just gets spent on today's pensioners, and so when I retire, all the money I personally have paid in won't be there for me. So it works in reverse - yes, people pay for my pension, but all this time, I'm paying for other people's pensions, and by the time I retire there'll be less for me than there is for all the people I'm paying for now... rant over, LOL

Anthony
Your story reminded me on the one about a bloke who went to the doctor with a frog stuck out of his forehead.
The doctor says, "Wow. That's ugly. How did it start?"
And the frog says "It all started with a boil on my bum."
(It was better when we were allowed to do Irish jokes).

It seems my emails aren't reaching you either.

We've not been at Sandbar since April, I'd mentioned that when I last emailed you, we're at An Outlet now, and looking to move to the Seven Oaks in the near future.

The May and June shows have been and passed. With me not hearing from you I wasn't sure you'd got the details RE the change of dates/venues and had to get a replacement.

If you'd be interested in reading poetry as part of our OpenMind festival at our OpenMind:OpenVoice poetry evening it's going to be at An Outlet on Dale Street, Manchester on 12th August from 6pm - 10pm with many top poets from across the country taking part. Let me know if you can make it and I'll put you on the guest list.

Re the first one, I had dad in mind when I wrote about the tally. I have vivid recollections of him being delighted every time on of his work colleagues popped it. 'You never guess who's died' being the first thing he'd say as I walked through the door... Poor Harry Pickworth...
