Gary Carr has been writing and performing in the Midlands and North of England for many years. He is the organiser of Spoken Worlds open mic night in Burton-on-Trent and one of the poets featured on the Polesworth Poetry Trail. While writing largely for the page, and with several wins and high placings in competition, he has also a past winner of the Buxton Poetry slam, also gaining a third place in the Buxton Fringe Festival Slam.
Fish You pick-up the undercurrents, flirt with fronds of conversation; kept safe by your immaculate schooling. I stand at the edge, in shallow talk and tidal silences; crabby, needing a drink out of water ----------------------------------------------- Microphone I am wary of the flex snake, keeping a prey’s distance between us. I know my plosives, picked-up, amplified into random poppings are all I will hear on playback. You laugh, tell me to get my mouth on it. Everything, from bulb and shaft, down to slim, smooth stand is suddenly phallic - and I am caught, as always; tell you I don’t do that sort of thing. A snigger, you remind me neither do you. A tentative approach and my lips brush the chromed mesh, finding a sensual, flesh-warm and surprisingly unsettling touch.
