Fleeced. Hi Lynne. nice observation.

lending generates bonus. this percuniary mess
was caused in part by bonus mad bank employees
not checking clients falsified ability to pay back loans. these very same clients are now
screaming for the bankers heads.for their lax and cavalier attitude. Or was it, with hindsight a sympathetic gesture by the bankers
to help realise borrowers dreams.

It's impossible to pin down the villain

It's good subject matter for endless speculation. And in time will no doubt generate a host of baseless conspiracy theories

Nice one keep probing

Hi Anthony. Thank you for the welcome back, though I'm not sure whether I am 'back'. It's been very busy for a long time but this past week I've been stuck at my mum's being a carer after she's had an op. Read about Pessoa, got interested, found I could dredge up my WOL password, and here I am.
Thank you also for the link to John's poem. The discussion is fascinating though that's all there is time to check out right now. Mum is keeping me busy this morning. I hope you are keeping well. Do feel free to em with your news.

Hi Jade,

Your explanation lends the poem even more poignancy. Sometimes it isn't easy to tell people how we really feel about them, but I really can't think of a better way of expressing your feelings than the words you wrote; and you did write them for him. If someone wrote a poem like that for me I wouldn't stop smiling - forever! You go for it girl.

Regards,
A.E.

Andrew, you're quite right about that first stanza in The Road North in the York anthology - it is indeed about the summer of 1976. Coincidentally, Sid Villan mentioned that same summer last night in connection with one of his poems, called Crickets.

I grinned at your use of the phrase "after years of being apparently 'normal'" in your reply on my profile. The use of poetry to reflect attitudes is affected by the social mores of the time. As Ian Hislop points out in his current entertaining TV series on the British stiff upper lip, Britons of the 17th and 18th centuries were a far more emotional breed altogether than their Victorian descendants...and the poetry of the respective eras certainly reflect that change. Keats and Newbolt...how different are they?! Today's abrasive, often vulgar style surely 'reflects the age we live in now...just as today's music does. The compensation is being able to return to feed very sumptiously off the offerings of the past, thank goodness for them all.

You give me the creeps, Nicky-girl. Only this week I stood chopping veggies for tea,and asked myself, 'I wonder how Nicky is making out?" Maybe it was the humdrum job, and thinking of all the work you must have to do before finding time for WOL, like my daughter's mad routines with three kids. I have been off-line quite a bit these past few months , but intend to dig in again by the end of October. Blame the Great British Sports Summer! It really has been a privilege to be able to share via armchair in so many athletic events - I'm much more savvy than ever before. I know everyone did not have such an opportunity.
Thanks so much for contacting me.

Love, Cynthia

Hi Nicky (a little more presumptious than "Hello Nichola" but you will have to excuse me) -
I do appreciate your positive remarks about my
latest post. Poetry/verse is all things to all
people, but I subscribe to trying to leave them
with something they can enjoy and, hopefully, want to remember.
I have been reading your own profile poem "Stuff"...how very true! It led me to
paraphrase the first line of a favourite Gershwin song...
"It's very clear, our stuff is here to stay"!!
:-)
Best wishes.

Thanks for your comments on Malcolm's Memorial Walk, MC. It's funny about some blokes and poetry ... they're a bit surprised when you suddenly reveal a penchant for it after years of being apparently 'normal'. Actually, long-standing friends, male or female, can be a bit like that, I find. They think they know you, and then ... sorry, maybe I'm straying off the point.

Thank you MC, for your comment on my piece. There are times when cathartic release is your closest friend. I felt, I thought, I wrote.... I felt different. Emotion is so selfish, for want of a better word.

I have been reading some of your work. I really enjoy the way you have a knack of seeing beyond things..... and creating an image out of something, (which could be mundane) and then forcing the reader to create his/her interpretation of it. I read your last posting four times and each time I found something more.

Well done.x

Cynthia Buell Thomas! Where are you? Do you realise I have a HUGE clear platic bag full of constant mutterings and jibberjabble? For that I thank you. I may send them to you and see if you can decipher the constant rambling of a feeble and harrid mind :-)

How are you my lovely? I have been integrating myself back into the heady realms and striving to keep a low profile, but I have finally got to face the fact that I always have too much to say.

My final addition to the family has the unfortunate affliction of being a mini-me.

I hope you are well? I will be in and out of WOL on a regular basis now I have 2 whole hours a day to spare to put my constant rudimentary ramblings into some form or shape.

Love to you.Nicky x
