Hi Steve
Pleased you enjoyed Exposure. It's frightening what you can see walking around.
Of course my dress-sense in all conditions is absolutely perfect ?))

I'll be there. It sounds like a great theme, I can't wait to hear everyone's interpretation. There are always surprises.

You were missed Nicola on the last meet hope you make it on the next one!
I think the theme is a good one as we are always looking for a better place - - - but when we find it we still miss the place we have left behind so is the new place better after all?

Thanks Greg. I've been a member of write out loud for sometime now, but recently got a booking from someone who found me on your site via google. I love this site and thought I'd better update my profile, as so much has happened in the past few months.

Welcome to Write Out Loud, Claire. I was very interested to read your profile entry. Congratulations on your success as a performance poet. I know and love the De La Warr Pavilion, and that part of the world. We look forward to reading more of your poems here.

Don't know about rotting on my own, every cadaver planted is among'st bits of their predecessors. Next time you buy a bag of potting compost from B&Q it'll probably contain a human element.

Thanks for commenting on 'blue smoke ghost' Ray - apologies for the late response - not been on WOL for a couple of weeks.
I've never smoked - but lived in a house where both my father and brother did smoke (in the house) it was a blessed relief when dad lit up the pipe - a much more aesthetic smell for a non-smoker - although probably still as passively damaging. I'm glad you liked the poem mate - I appreciate you taking the time to comment

Thanks for your helpful advice re publishing. I am a bit miffed now as I put so much of my content on WOL and would like to start submitting to small presses and the like. Given the expectation of rejections in the normal way it seems a bit depressing to add to the problem.
I suppose one could re title and change some of the earlier stuff. This rule obviously applies to competitions as well I guess.
Anyway you've given me flesh to hang my bones on!!
Cheers Ray

even deleting them does no good as they remain on the search engines for a while after. if the journal/competition says 'previously unpublished' then its a struggle if its been up on here. having said that, i just submit anyway and see what they say. some come back with 'no as its previously published' and some dont check. the most popular mode of checking appears to be a simple google search of the first line, which is crude but efficient. a lot of places wont mind if its been up on WOL as long as its not been in any other journal/competition. I deleted a cast swathe of poems on here a few months ago and they still appear on google. however, they do drop off eventually.

Ta, Stu. Brevity is all. Actually a point I wanted to ask you in your capacity as a printed poet. I entered a competition, as was told that blogs on WOL constitute publication therefore invalidating them from any further chance of print. Other than deleting them individually, have you any advice from an old virgin such as I, please? Thanks a lot.
Ray

Hey Stu..you know I've spent quite a bit of my adult career as a server of chefs in busy kitchens..one of the most notable experiences was witnessing a chef, veins pulsing full on the forehead, viewing the abbreviation for a meal of the day..
"SHE WROTE PIGS..PIGS..PIGS FOR PIEROGIES..PIGS GODDAMMITT.."
This blaring from the kitchen all the while quiet little servers took the orders of local bankers and engineers who were listening obsequiously from the dining room..excellent..

Hi Nigel, I will, but I think John is putting it on somewhere, maybe when the write up of the group meeting is added. If not, I'll add it onto my blog...there must be a poem in here of being lost in a virtual world... I never know if I'm in the right place, I lose myself in the IT navigation!

Ray, my apols for harping on about the football aspects of '1970', rather than applaud its poetic qualities the more! It's a very successful poem.

Thanks for picking up on "1970" Greg, my first year as a pro muso. Much time spent mooching about trying to build up contacts(using the phone in the underground station believe it or not). Saturdays often to Spurs as mentioned. I have a diary for the year, and noted all the matches I attended. I can't find any games with Chelsea, but I note Spurs beat L'pool 1-0 . Some were achingly depressing like Wolves 0-0 in December with the walk home following. The most distilled aggression was felt for Arsenal at the time!
My aim was to write a poem in a style hopefully similar to the ones you often pen, with lots of detail to flesh out the journey. Always a pleasure.
Ray

Hi Everybody
I am probably being a bit dim here but never really realised that this facility existed and therefore have never accessed it before. Anyway following on suggestions from last month I am just putting up details of 'under the fable'
This is an open mike night at the castle pub ,66 Oldham street Manchester on the 18th August and 21st September . I attended and read last year and are going to do so again on the 21st September. The second date has been added because they ran out of slots for the first night. Therefore I will attend both nights but reading on the 21st because I was too late for the 18th. Should prove to be interesting nights and worth attending.
Cheers
Martin
