Biography

Having spent over 30 years working in the education sector, including a spell as Advisory Teacher for English in East Sussex, I retired in 2013 and reinvented myself as a performance poet. I have been surprised and delighted with the response and now have a regular schedule of public speaking/poetry reading engagements.Although containing some serious messages, I mostly try to write lighthearted poetry which is frequently humorous and designed for performance. A lot of my poetry does tend to appeal to the older age group, and several of my poems have won awards from the Silver Surfers website. I have raised over £5000 for charity partly through sales of my 5 (self) published booklets of poetry entitled 'Simply Bexhill', 'Simply Christmas', 'The De La Warr Date', 'Seaside and Sailaway' and 'Simply Modern Life. I have also published two novels called 'My Daughter's Wedding' and 'Different Genes'. The novels are available through Amazon and all my publications can be purchased through my website.

The Last Minute Man Would you believe it’s Christmas Eve? The candles revealed, the biscuits unsealed, Prepare to be merry, they’ve opened the sherry, A fridge full of food for their bright festive mood, They share laughter and wishing, but someone is missing He is distant from home, on a mission alone, With a slight air of panic, a figure quite manic, On a damp half lit road, he’s in desperate mode, Grasping plastic in hand, he has joined in the band, Of those parked on the doubles, just to add to their troubles The staff hide a yawn, for they feel quite forlorn, Working on after lunch for the late shopping bunch, But they’ll do what they can to help last minute man. They point to Chanel, Calvin Klein, Cacharel, When the cost makes him moan, they produce the cologne Decision is made, the money is paid, Wrapped with ribbon and tape, and he makes his escape At last homeward bound, through the door without sound, But it clicks when you lock it, the gift peeps from his pocket She forces a smile, ‘You’ve been out for a while’ You can find other examples by accessing links on www.clairebaldry.com or searching for Claire Baldry on You Tube

Hi Claire
If I make someone smile, that's all I can ask for.

You'll realise from my stance that I am perfectly attired in all conditions ?)

Thanks Greg. I've been a member of write out loud for sometime now, but recently got a booking from someone who found me on your site via google. I love this site and thought I'd better update my profile, as so much has happened in the past few months.

Welcome to Write Out Loud, Claire. I was very interested to read your profile entry. Congratulations on your success as a performance poet. I know and love the De La Warr Pavilion, and that part of the world. We look forward to reading more of your poems here.
