They Will Not See

There’ll come a time in days ahead

we must anticipate with dread

for all the tears that will be shed

so bitterly.

When wars at last are so widespread

that no one’s free.

Behold the future bathed in red,

with millions maimed and countless dead,

while you lie safely in your bed

and will not see;

the dreams for which our forbears bled

will never be.
