spaghetti junction (rewrite)

Dinner times were brutal

 

The small talk barbaric

 

We dined on each other’s failures

The whole family as one

Seething and silent

 

He would get home from work

And sink his fangs

Into whoever looked tender

(we tried to look tough)

 

His blood boiling

The kettle whistling

The rend and rift

 

I stayed silent

Played dumb

Took my medicine
