June's Pop Up at the Bar des Arts was a great success despite a few glitches - what with glorious weather, Mexico playing Brazil in the World Cup (a lousy draw), our back-cloth screen collapsing and almost braining Dónall, our mic-stand proving short of a rod or two and our stage lighting staying obstinately unlighted. Luckily, all these material disasters happened before the start of the evening....

The last Pop Up Poetry event of 2012 was a memorable occasion, a fitting climax to the year where we have built up our audience and our expertise to bring to Guildford a platform where local poets can have a hearing and poets from London and other centres can make their voices heard in our provincial (dare I say) locality. We're very excited about the next event we're running in Guildford at the Bar des Arts, opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. It's on Tuesday 20th November, and you can find it on the Gig Guide. It's the only good thing about my turning 21 again the next day - this is my pre-birthday party!

The sun is not a person.
The sun does not remember
its past, does not mourn
its future as a shrunken dwarf;
does not care for its planets
or their inhabitants
though in some sense
the sun is probably their parent.
The sun does not worry
about what other stars may think
as it runs a path through the teeming universe.
The sun is not a god.

Pop Up Poetry's October gig was dedicated to collecting for Oxfam as part of Oxjam month, and we succeeded in collecting donations of £70 from an enthusiastic audience, as well as enjoying a brilliant evening of song and poetry - our tenth monthly event this year.
Dónall Dempsey hosted with his customary blend of Irish charm, persuasion (that's how we collected the £70!) and teasing banter ...
