The Tracks Of My Years
The Tracks Of My Years
We sat cross legged in summer dusk
A smoky haze passing through
Admired artwork airbrushed
In fantastic swirls of colour
Reading words in synchronised
Staccato with the music
Flowing from the stereo
Simpler times
Longer hair
No aching joints
I wish we could do that again
But friends disappear like exhaled smoke
And some a...

NEW ALBUM: 'Crow Lore' by THE CROWS OF ALBION
I have been posting poems during lockdown based on the concept taken from a much earlier poem called 'Cycle Of The Scarecrow' a fantasy piece which tells the tale of a scarecrow who is brought back to life by a witch and walks the fields of Albion. It is a reflection on the changing seasons and of growing old - and the premise of 'what if I had my time again?
It was released today as a digital do...

Imagine
Carrying around two vinyl records
In a plastic case just four inch long
And half an inch wide
How good would that be?
Sitting
at a hi-tech record player
that lets you copy the sounds you hear
and with the subtle use of ‘PAUSE’
transfer onto a compilation tape.

Moving from format to format
The highlights of a dozen albums

Glam Rock Man
Glam Rock Man
A stack heeled stomp in platform boots
Trowelled make-up and glitter suits
Feather cut hair and tinted roots
It’s Glam Rock, man,
it’s Glam Rock
Teenage Rampage, Ballroom Blitz,
Radio One plays all The Hits
Driving your dad out of his wits
It’s Glam Rock, man,
it’s Glam Rock
Jackie, Smash, Disco Forty Five
What a great time to be alive

The Walkin' Man (Audio Version)
some of you kind Write Out Louders offered me some great encouragement when I posted this poem earlier this year (tribute to Pete Seeger) and suggested it might work well with a musical backing -so - I've been in the studios and produced this version - I hope you like it:

this woman’s work
warm breath on ice
baroque and roll
dancing windmills

the purr of cats
a stolen kiss

serpent’s hiss
touch of lace
Cleopatra eyes

dolphin cries
weeping angels
laughing clowns
heartbeat flutter
ninth wave drowns
waterfalls
windswept moors
kangaroos
painted whores
chilling wind
waxing moon

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED
http://whiteleyian.wix.com/the-crows-of-albion#
I've decided to put some of my performance and recorded songs onto a new website - along with a future blog of poems and live dates etc. So, quite a few of the poems i blogged last year now appear on this site as either performance videos or recorded tunes (via Soundcloud).
There's a quite a bit of colour and it gives me the opportunity to prom...

Walkin' Man
The Walkin’ Man
For Pete Seeger (May 3rd 1919 – January 27th 2014)
Serendipity Spangle was a walkin’ man -
of that, there is no doubt,
he walked across great continents
and was seen round here about.
With his low slung jeans and guitar,
he had no need for fancy suits,
he just roamed the great blue yonder
in his worn down cowboy boots .
Those who were there at his birth
cross their...
