CHILDHOOD (Remove filter)

Up int' Pool

California by day,

Las Vegas by night,

with flat caps, deckchairs,

and other English sensibilities,

once dying, maybe still,

while trams rattle declaring

sealife promises,

to stargate pleasures,

to Cher and her 'life after love',

entwined with the pulse of a rollercoaster.

Sounds of Saturday football matches,

played hard on soft sand,

menace resting seagull...

MEMORIES OF OLD

Memories of old,

flooding fast through my mind,

some tinged with sadness

and some, sweet sublime.

A fireside reverie shared

with eyes so bright,

an audience of innocence

and excited delight.

The crackling logs

on the fires of time,

the little rapt faces as

you feed them a line.

Of thunder, lightning,

and rain as we run!

Football, toy...

My first real friend was Godfrey

And for the first few weeks of our friendship

I always thought

Who calls their kid Godfrey?

Then I met his Mum

And I thought

He got away lightly

Together we shared our first experience of alcohol

I was thirteen at the time

So a late starter where I grew up

We stole a bottle of sherry from his Dads booze cupboard

Snuck round the back...

Cake Mix

Lied back

Eyes staring upwards

At the Soft Cell poster

Awkwardly tacked to the ceiling

But already beginning to curl at the edges

The sound of crockery clattering

Gently switches me back to reality

The familiar sound of the pot mixing bowl

Rocking back and forth

As Mum beats the eggs with alarming ferocity

(No mechanical aids in sight to whizz the mix into fluffy...

Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time

Pop wagons
rattling and clinking
with their gaudy shades
of potions slopping.

Coal lorries
groaning up the hill
breathing their dragons breath
of carbon dust.

The aged magik
of a ramshackle
cobblers hut
and the clanging of the last.

The shout of
“Rag and Bone”
echoing down
a Monday morning.

Tobacconist
selling chocolate cigars
to little mimics
of the...

Drowse

Drowse

When there are no mirrors
I am young again
Sitting in the warming glow
of distant years
The aches and pains
will all be gone tomorrow
The days are long
and never seem to grey.
Parents are in another room
just out of hearing
The T.V has three channels
all black and white
Three meals a day
are sitting on the table
The bonfire smoke
creates the evening dusk.

Another time I...

Kelvingrove Memories

Stumbling across a hidden river
lost amongst lush greenery
where grass and stones collide
I feel my thoughts split open
the tacky pull of damp ground
the grand firmness of dry bark
and these muddy banks transporting me...

In my swirling senses
the immediate evaporates
I hear water rushing
rushing
rushing into the past

Where teenage bodies dive
and teenage bodies glide
where clen...

A Glimpse

I saw a glimpse of spring today
While riding in the truck
I never knew how sweet it smelled
Untill the light possesed my soul
I thought the night of winter would forever consume my eternity
but oh how wrong I was because....
I saw a glimpse of spring today

The smell of sweet remembrance of a childhood long passed by
will forever haunt by being
But in that moment I was entrapped in a w...
