If I wrote the forbidden words

or dared to speak them out,

who would say what they had heard

or spread the word about?

 

And if I hid from whig and rule

which of them might turn?

To speak of me as if a fool

that I some lesson learn...

 

And who of them might stand along

to take the space I'd filled?

Where I had dared to right a wrong

that no more life be killed...
