talented combination.
Thank you

Hi Tom
thanks for comment on Ted Crow, I re-read recently (evidently) and found it more personally Hughes at the second pass. I hope all going well at the Northampton Review, I thought the first issue worked very well.
Dom.

Yes, Kitchen was excellent, but your sample piece I enjoyed also - I love the momentum and flow, an enviable asset. The subject is a well trodden road, but with a real insight free of bias. I am reminded of Christie Brown.

Thanks for your comment Tom. I'm going to try to improve it some more but I'm glad you liked it as it is. I think in performance that second verse probably wouldn't seem weak - you can't get away with anything on the page though, can you? :)

Hello Tom,

I've just looked on your To Marianne website - you have some lovely work there - particularly like your drawings. You can look at my poetry if you want, but it's a bit embarrassing compared to yours. Also could you send me the rest of your '30 Das of November', I was enjoying it.

Glad you liked "George Best" Tom.
The reason I hadn't bought the trousers was that choice was a bit limited in 42 inch waists.
But I could probably have got into George Best's shorts.

Hello Tom - your kind comments about "Brothers" are very welcome. The poem follows the old wisdom "write about what you know" so I will not claim any visitation from some other-worldly spark of imagination.

Hi Tom, I am glad you found my comments useful. I do find a lot of comments on here focus on the topic rather than the poetry. I really enjoy looking at how a poem works and what goes into it. I loved Stylistics, at University because it was like a Sherlock Holmes approach to the poem. What is really there? You are welcome to comment on my poems any time.

Tom, I have been intending to thank you for your comment on my 'O Sweet Confusion", your high praise that it reminded you of Basho. Those lines are among my favourites in all my works.

I greatly enjoy the writing of Haiku and Tanka too, for I find the 'prescribed' syllable structure very stimulating, if I choose to use it. With haiku I always have to ask myself: Where does egotism interfere with sincerity? Cinquains and Diamante are fabulous forms also, in their very structured brevity.

Hi Tom;

Cheers for the comments on the poem on 'Before the Curtains Open'.

Although I do like sometimes writing in complex language, this is a piece where I use the language to totally differnt effect, and it ended up been one of those poems, I must admit that started off that started in one direction and ended up in totally another if that makes sense, but it is a snapshot really of a recent memory.

But glad you like it

Cheers – A

Thanks for your thoughts on Cradle, Tom.
I didn't know of LC's The Faith. I checked it out though and you're right - it is that poem. Apparently it's a traditional Quebec folk song. There is a lot of rhyme repetition which serves to reinforce the sense, but it isn't a villanelle.
I've had a pop at a couple of these, which I find a bit unsatisfying - something to do with the 3 line structure, I think. In fact I submitted one a couple of blogs back called "Wrong Road Roun'" - it's a bit ripe in language, though.
Anyway, once again, thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Tom, I never thought of Claret and Blue as a psalm, but now you mention it...Spurs haven't broken into the top 4, though, that place will go with the money.I do see the attraction in a relegation battle, that's one of the ideas in the poem, promotion battles must be even better. Who do you support?

I like your poems very much, also your drawing - are you just about to sit down and write a poem or have you just finished and you're off to get a cup of tea? The paper looks very blank! And you look a little anxious! I think I would like to live in a softly furnished vestibule, but as I have only just joined WOL I feel more like the child listening at the edge of the wood!

Winston - Thanks. Nice to be here. I realised after posting that both poems have religious overtones. I wouldn't say this dominates my writing any greater than those other reliable poetry topics; love, death, injustice etc. though i find myself turning to it more and more. as leonard cohen once said...i never met a religion i didn't like.
