Glad you like 'Perfect Place' - it's a bit of a oldie that one but its suited to the time of the life and links in well to 'Before the Curtains Open' (which is a lot newer)...

Glad you liked 'Love is...' I actually blogged it twice before and then instantly deleted it because I felt it was so cliched...and you know how much trouble I've got into here by criticising cliches. :-)

Dealing with cliche minefields like 'love', 'the moon', 'shagging' etc. is almost the point of poetry...how to say it again, but differently. That's poetry.

Thanks Isobel. Now you also know why some of us don't accompany our comments with photos. The facial adornments were applied by my daughter at The Big Chill last year. She felt they were necessary to make me look cool. Poor kid.

I agree completely re religion. Am reading the bible for the first time in my life (was always atheist, now agnostic, for what its worth), and it keeps striking me how different the stuff that Jesus says in it, to what certain 'Christians' would have you believe. Total eye opener.

Oh, and the reason you won't remember Lot's wife's name is because she is never directly named! How's that for controversial!

Salt - big thing in the bible, but I initially put it in there because it's the best thing to get blood out of clothes (cold water and salt - never used it?). It's also a purifier, in essence. Hope that helps :)

I am outdone! In dirtiness stakes! ;D Heh - naw, your ma sounds like a proper superwoman. We had a coal fire to heat water too - had to pull the 'damper' down to get the water hot, and quite often the water would be stained with rust. that probably didn't help with the tidemarks ;)

Yes I do agree with you Isobel about not just posting but commenting on others. That's what i've always done and it's a main reason why I don't post that often - because it is wrong not to read other people's stuff and comment on it in a supportive way, and I don't always have time to do this properly. If you don't like it at all, best not to comment, I'd say - unless it;s actually offensive in some way and you feel really strongly the need to comment anyway, but it can and should be done maturely - not something everyone is capable of on here sadly, altho no doubt they consider themselves well-endowed intellectually!

‘Raged the Wind’

The catalyst for the poem was one of trying to capture a moment before the world as we know it through history and geology actually deciding to render up the spark that began the development of life. To the dizzy heights and progress of today’s Homo sapiens in let’s say for example in Wigan today.

I was actually the eldest of two, and the only certainty about our finances was that there was absolutely no money for anything - hence the cupboard under the table was the house for the paper dolls I'd drawn myself.
Obviously the poem not quite working :)

Many thanks for your comments on Obit. Honestly I take it as great praise from you, as I rate your work in performance poetry very highly. I definitely agree - some poetry just doesn't suit the Tudor nights setting at all. All poetry should be read out loud but you do have to choose your setting carefully & be aware of the audience. I feel like I am gradually tuning into what works for the different settings but it's quite an education!
And yeah, no sex! Case of no sex please, we're British!! Too cerebral, not earthy enough! xxx

Thanks for commenting and spending time with my 'musing' poem. Yes, poetry is not dead... but outside the realm of poets and poetic pursuits there is quite a dearth there that it sometimes seems a dying art form. I don't believe in my heart that poetry can die. As long as there is breath and words in the heart and the tongue... there poetry always will be.

Thanks for your comments on the prostitute piece. It may well be that I unconsciously was echoing John's 'man' poem as I like it a lot. But what I actually had in mind were those jokes that begin with the cliché: 'A man went into a pub' or 'A parrot went into a pub' or 'An Irish man walked into a pub' etc - I thought I was playing around with that. I can't change it now as Banksy says he'd kill for those lines ;)

Thank so much for your very well thought through critique... it really isn't a million miles away from the reality at the heart of the piece.I was born on a small Island and as a consequence the sea features in much of my poetry.

Sorry I can't get along tonight - my wife had an op on her elbow just after Xmas and she is getting better but is still not 100 per cent so I can't make it tonight.
