Thanks John, for your comments about 'Confetti' & 'Solace'. Yes, I think you're probably right about a lot of people on here mourning lost love, and, like me, many of them are wearing rose tinted glasses. Thanks for reading.

Hi John, thank you for commenting upon 'After', it was actually my entry for one of those challenges to write a poem including a phrase (After the love), which struck a chord with my muse :)

I found reading your 'Grandmothers Gentleman Caller' rather charming - nicely balanced with that touch of humour!

Best wishes

Dave

Thanks for your comment, Isobel -yes, the point is the bogey man is not in another country, not a 'foreigner' and to pretend it is is a hoax in order to dominate their country while people here fear for their own children on their own streets.

Hi Cynthia

Thanks as ever for the positive feedback. It was interesting that you thought the poem was close to proselytizing, which is normally associated with attempts to persuade people to join a particular religious organisation. I've just spent two weeks in Israel Palestine which gave rise to the poem, and would hold that particular religious organisations are a significant part of the problem there. I think the poem could have been written by an atheist as, if there is a God (which I believe), He/She is assuredly on all sides of all walls. But if there isn't then whatever is 'ultimate reality' is similarly universally present.

I've done some reading about the situation over there. The best book so far has been Emma Williams' 'It's Easier to Reach Heaven than the End of the Street'.

Hi Steve, thanks for the comment on open-mic virgin. Read at the Howcroft last Sunday, great experience, hopefully go again next time or may try the Tudor next, reasonably local to me in Bolton.

Wanted to put a comment up about 'The Taleban are Skitting Me Nan', but considering I work with asylum seekers and refugees, thought it may be a little politically incorrect of me. Thought it was a very clever and humourous poem though. I enjoyed it.

hi there joshua thanks for taking the time to read "what is love" poem i see it has intrigued you. the answer to your question about what type of love is entirely upto the person reading it has i'd written it so that it gave the reader an option of how they would interpret it and to make you think about it :-) (i hope that clears it up) :)

Hi Cynthia, as I have said before I enjoy the criticism of my writing, what you have to say is constructive and I don't take offense at it at all. Sometimes one can get too close to a piece, and miss mistakes and errors, or make mistakes in typing - I am sure that I am computer dyslexic!! haha. Think I mentioned before that I can spot grammatical stakes at a hundred paces in the work of others but when it comes to my own I think they hide and take cover.

Hi John, John here. (I was in the Estate agents recently and out of the five people in the office, four of them were called John. When I told them I had an appointment with John they all groaned). When I was 10, many years ago, John was the most popular name for boys, I don't think it's even in the top 20 now. Funny how names will end up dating you. In 20 years time 'clairvoyant hoaxsters' will be closing their eyes and touching their temples and saying' is anybody here missing a John?' and a whole bunch of blue-rinsers will start waving their arms about. : )

Anyway, that's not why I called....in fact I've completely forgotten why I did pop in...oh yes, couldn't 'copulant', which we both agree isn't really a word (although it does have minor usage in fertility sciences when discussing the fusion of gametes) become 'corpulent'?

I rather like the idea of a corpulent brillianteened quiff.

JMHO
: )

I have read that the moral fibre of the English working class is a world on to itself, an arguable statement, of course, but still very evident in modern English society.
