Hello Laura.
Thanks for commenting on "Our Tom". He still lives in the village with his mum and dad, and it was only ever a joke that he seemed to spend as much time at our house as his own. I think he had a soft spot for my daughter which he wanted making hard!

Thanks for your comments on "Our Tom", Isobel.
I read it to him and gave it to him framed for his 21st birthday. Apparently it's on his bedroom desk! There really wasn't any sadness at his leaving.
He's always been a smashing lad, a bit unlucky with the girls but he could make a fortune as a cruise ship gigolo - he has an attraction for women of a "certain age".

Hi Ann
Lovely, as ever, to get your thoughts. It's not difficult to understand the basis for the poem, but a small explanation
Ann died on the 1st August (5 years ago) which is Yorkshire Day (Yorkshire as you may know, from your school history lessons, is the white rose county

Thank you so much for your comments! I was just telling a friend what I hoped would come through with 'Broken Mirrors'... I wrote it with two completely different ideas in mind - and you picked up on that : )

Lovely to have met you at Arvon too. I re-drafted Wife and Mother there, I had stupidly tried to give it a happy ending (for years), softening it so it didn't have an upsetting effect on folk. In its original form the ending always kind of irritated me, and I kind of felt "permission" to give it the proper last two stanzas there and remove the false ending. One of those poems which is coloured by whether the person reading / hearing it knows the background or the writer, no idea how it works if you know neither!

Hi again Lynn.
The P.C. I am using is very tempremental
-or should that just be mental!
It is,nt mine,it is an old spare one
of my Daughters.
She is away for six months in America
and I am here at her cottage in South Wales
overlooking the fitting of a new kitchen.
How long the builders will be,
we can,t really determine, since the room
has to be completely gutted and re-floored.
I am in two minds wether or not
to buy a laptop if the building work
looks set to run into weeks
or just play on-and-off games
with my Daughters P.C?
I don,t really need a laptop as such
but there again I don,t really fancy
driving five hours back to Rossendale
in order to put a poem on each day-haha!
So if I go on the missing list for a few weeks
at least you will know, that I,m not
having a day out with the undertaker!
In the meantime,I shall not curse
this old P.C. or look at it the wrong way
in case it gives birth to another gremlin-lol!
Keep well Lynn.
Our best to you Colin and Benji.
Stef and Patricia.xx

Hi Isobel
For starters, thanks as usual, for taking the time to read and comment
I think your idea is right. I also thought it would be good to perform, but I'm not sure how long I'd be able to maintain my German accent.
I posted 'Hey'up Dave' a couple of weeks ago, which I also thought would be good to perform (and you know how little I think of myself as performer)
I'd been thinking (strongly) of coming over to the next Tudor and having a go (the venues round here seem to be getting thinner and thinner). It would also be nice to see you obviously.
As either Hey'up Dave or Auf Wiedersehen would take about 4 or 5 minutes to perform, I'd have to pick one or the other
I'd beeen favouring Hey'up because it's a piss-artists answer to all our current woes (appropriate for the Xmas do at the Tudor?), but I'd welcome your thoughts

Hi M.C,
Not been on for a bit and have only just seen your comment on my page..
The reason for so many poets being from the north; I think it relates to wol being set-up in Bolton and the surrounding area. A lot of poets got to know each other at the various venues and the poetry scene is also vibrant in Manchester, Liverpool and on the Wirral.
That said there are quite a few people from further afield, the midlands and down south. I know Ann Foxglove has set up a poetry night somewhere near Cornwall...so lots of people from differing places frequent the site.
Not sure if you write and perform your poetry of just write it, but I would recommend going to open mic nights if you are not doing so already. There is bound to be one or two in your area.
Your poems have been a welcome read.
My Best
Chris
