"She dream-footed lightly"...awe what a lovely way to put it :) You've got some interesting take-me-away-deep-into-your-characters type of poems here. Looking forward to perusing more of your work. By the way, I left a response to your question on my "Don't Put Me in Your Box"...thanks again for your comment :)

Hi Cynthia

don't worry, i am not offended - it's a love poem, as i sculpt with words, the poem becomes the final line, which is a testament to Marianne, and how i feel about her

i can't carve from marble, so i attempt to translate how i feel into words - in the midst of life, which is of course, finite

Thank you, Cynthia, for the kind words in appreciation of my poem STAGNANT and my poetry in general.

I have not spent much time reading other's poetry on this site until now. I especially connected to your poem 'The Dream-footer' in your samples; very natural imagery, absolutely pleasing, especially when reading it while listening to Chopin. The gypsy almost seemed to metaphorically be like that violet in the last stanza. Big, and perhaps a natural beauty about it no one else cares to notice.

I plan on going through each and every lovely bit of writing you have to offer.

Hi Cynthia
Thanks for your comments about a short walk. It was based on a walk I went on with my wife and friends around the coast of Anglesey in North Wales in the spring. It's a good point about Baroness, I like the way that word has turned out there even though I had previously thought about changing it.
Thanks again

It's me again
Tripe
What would you think to me lowering the line 'The fabric of her town had perished' onto the following three lines. I think I'm going to do that anyway. The fabric of the town perishing is perhaps more accurately lined with the description of the state of the arcades and mansions
My tongue-in-cheek attempt? The town that I grew up in (a vibrant wool town) is truly dying - the arcades, either empty or full of tat, and the 'mansions' left, in many cases to crumble away, but a lady that I was passing 5 minutes with at Hosp. ultrasound dept could only comment on the fact that the tripe stall had shut. It perhaps highlights how we each see the changes that have come about in the time that we have spent on this planet.
I wish I could write, and therefore explain what was in my head at any one specific time

Hi Cynthia
Forgotten
As ever I truly appreciate your looking and commenting on the poem
I agree with you about stanza 5. The idea that I wanted to write something like this, came from a couple of sources
Firstly - the results of the MEP elections, where many people (definitely not me) in the North of England voted UKIP because they see themselves as those described in St.5.
Second - hearing our Southern countrified cousins complaining about the impact on the environment of airport extensions; fracking etc, (both, I accept, perhaps objectionable examples) without them really understanding that the areas north of The Wash have been the dirty engine room of the country for centuries, and the impact that this had on generation after generation
Probably not quite the explanation of what was in my mind when I wrote Forgotten, but I was really trying to write the second half of the poem to describe what I know to be in the mind of many people (perhaps a generation or two younger than me) in my little patch of the world - Forgotten and displaced
Wish I had an answer

Hi Cynthia
Thanks for the thought - which I will seriously consider
I have buggered about with that last line for the last 2 days, and I'm still not 100% sure
I think I wanted to make 'and the tripe stall had shut' as a comparison between the major physical changes to the town, and what, to many, would seem incosequential. This is my reason (perhaps unclear) for leaving a line between the last 2 lines, as if an afterthought.
But I shall keep considering
Maybe if I get over to Sale again I will be able to let you know which way I've jumped

nothing gets past you eh? 'the vegetable man' is an old poem of mine, that I've revisited and tweaked a bit - and - YES - good spot - despite it sitting around for years I hadn't noticed the repeat descriptive eyes - so I've made a change to make it a bit less clumsy and a little more horror/comedy (I hope) - let me know what you think - and thanks so much for continuing to support and feedback - I appreciate it :-)

Thank you Cynth for your considered comment on Wayward :)

There's a story behind it. A friend of mine takes amazing photographs, that scream ideas and possibilities at me, and so I decided to write about one of them with a view to writing about more of them.

Anyway, if you check my previous poem, Framed, that's the photo I was trying to write about. For nearly two solid weeks I wrote, and what I found was that I had TOO MANY ideas which I simply could not contain. I ended up with two epic rambling pieces of, well, crap. I really didn't like them. So I forced myself to condense using haiku. I'm still not very happy about the result and intend to come back to it at some point and do it real justice.

Anyhoo, I was complaining about it all to a mate, and then this poem popped out! Wrote itself! As I said to me mate, I think my muse is some kind of rabid donkey, who can never ever be controlled :D

PS - no, nowt to do with comics or Tokyo :)

Cynthia, many thanks for taking the trouble to comment favourably on my effort, which is encouraging. I'll try to produce more. I looked at one or two of yours, which would obviously be appreciated by many. I noted the theme of sensuality here and there.
If you are actually in Bermuda, it may interest you that a fellow student from 60 years ago, Valerie (now) Pacheco lives near Hamilton and she visits us in the UK occasionally. You might know her?

thanks for your comments over my last few poems on here.

the ghost story is taking some thought as i am trying to write one a day throughout april, but it is getting there but by keeping them fairly short - i am tending to find they have more impact.

to answer your question over 'silhouetting in Wagner'. i picked up a story regarding Wagner been played in one of the camps fairly recently (a work of fiction), and i put silhouette in by accident in front of it (was going to put in something else) and it seemed to work.

thanks for the comments again x

Hi Cynthia Thanks for comments on 'Casablanca', especially for spotting the dodgy apostrophe! 'Casa Branca' in line 3 is corect because I'm referring to the original name.'Casa Blanca' is the hispanicised form that we all now use in the West and goes back to the Spanish protectorate.

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you again for you appreciation of my work - it is really touching and inspiring to me. I feel I am splitting my voice at the moment - been writing a lot of stuff to send to competitions, magazine publications etc. which I am trying to be brave enough to allow a more personal stance with the reader, but am also still keen to explore word sounds and the architecture of this in more abstract work too.

Will we see you at Sale WOL next Tuesday? I will be reading and it would be lovely to hear you again.

Take care,

Marianne x

Hi Cythia I hope you're feeling better and you konw what, I think you might have a point with 'ghostly' over 'spectral'. In some ways the former is more 'ordinary' perhaps but then the latter might be slightly more 'mannered'. However, as far as the harmony of sounds is concerned I think you are right. In fact, I never thought of it echoing the click of hooves on concrete, but now that you've mentioned it you are again right and as you say, the other clicks come later. In passing, I hope there is just enough of a hint of 'migration' but without overdoing it in our present climate. Apparently the hordes from the east were actually not that desperate to invade us on 1 January after all.
