Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your kind feedback. I have always found self-deprecation to be a pretty useful way to get an audience on side before I start to mock figures of authority.
I enjoyed reading your poetry. The Watercress Girl has some wonderful imagery and The Doomsday Man is perceptive, mocking, and has a very powerful ending.
George

Hi there George,
And welcome to WOL. Love the gentle, self-deprecating humour in your poems - and don't we just need humour in these bleak times? I have found this to be friendly, helpful place to hang out. Hope you enjoy your time here. Maybe the best way to get something out of this community is to offer a few crits on the work of others and check out the discussion forums. Have fun!
Regards,
A.E.

ello mate thanks for the welcome and for the chuckle i had on your comments about my "dark" work haha
i dont solely write dark for any particular reason apart from that i write what i feel as do most but as and when i wish to evangelise about a summers day etc i will, as im not totally into nihilism.
im keen to ultimately get my work published in answer to your question and am keen to make inroads into doing that (ability permitting)

Thanks for approval posted on my page Frank. I see from 'Shadows' you are aptly named. You 'wear your Freud on your sleeve' when writing. Does poor Keith have any idea just how hopeless his situation is? (:o)

Hi Freda,
There's such a lot of stuff on here now that it's taken me a while to discover yours. I'm really glad I did, and I just want to tell you how much I admire your work. I can't add much to what's already been said, except to say that you are a very talented poet. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read.
Regards,
A.E.

Hi rod, talkin all dat jazz no reference to what you were saying. Talking of Ole, i first heard it on Gilles Petersons One World on Radio One. I tried hi and lo to obtain it in this country, and had the record shops looking for it in their directories, but no joy. I dropped in New York, and the first thing i did was to walk into a record shop in Times Square, where, they duly gave me a copy of the CD. It is one of my prized CD's, sounds good today as its always been. Dunno why us brits have such a horrible attitude, to works of pure genius that court the dark and sublime. Nice one for your comments rod. Be Well.

Hi Alan,
And welcome to WOL. Took a look at your work via the links you provided, and you're right - absloutely right - it's DAAAAARK - very dark! Darker than a blind black cat wearing dark glasses in a sack of soot sitting in a coal cellar at midnight when there's no moon or stars! Had to look up "crotaline" as I'd not come across the adjective for the pit viper family before - nice to learn a new word, thanks. Couldn't get the link to poeticmonthly.com, despite googling it and searching it - is it defunct? What do you wish to achieve with your writing - more darkness - or a new direction? I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration and encouragement here if you are prepared to participate. I would suggest a good way to get feedback on your work is to offer comment on the work of others, a good start might be to give three crits for every poem you post. I have found contributors to be both friendly and helpful here, and hope you find the same. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Regards,
A.E.

Hi Winston, I know, a box containing something dead seems macabre. however, I often find butterflies in one of my sheds, which have tried to escape but become trapped in cobwebs. I try to rescue them but often it is too late. I couldn't help myself and wanted to see the beauty of their wings and preserve them in a little tin. There was still so much life in the colours even though their little bodied were hollow. The silver wires are their proboscises, probosci or whatever, i imagined probing my mind instead of a flower. I love butterflies and I wanted to appreciate the beauty of their wings before they faded. Deb.

Hi Daniel
Thaks for your comment. Childs play? Are you crazy? 'Corporate Christ' is a bit too close to home for me these days and has really made me think, and as for 'Poetry Bomber' - how much do I wish I'd written that one myself?
Fantastic pace and rhhythm, fresh, different, edgy; respect what you do, because its good!
Can't wait to read more

thanks Anthony,
trouble is anyone employed by the nhs who attempts to whistle blow or protest in any useful way against such abuses, now runs the risk of being victimised. According to bbc 4 'Today' this morning, if Jackie Smith gets her way, anyone who dissents in any way against what this government is doing runs a serious risk of being branded an enemy of the state !

Hi Anthony,
George Clooney. He's ok i guess. Brad Pitt does nothing for me at all. Johnny Depp however is another matter altogether. Phew!
Thanks for your lovely observations on my Mandolin poem. I had the same thought about the Rod Stewart connotations but i do love that song anyway. I wrote the poem while listening to a meditation cd and the mandolin was part of the instrumentals.

Hi Gus,
Thanks for your fulsome praise of "The Watercress Girl". Entirely undeserved really, it's just a piece of Victorian Gothic fantasy, but I hope entertaining. I, like others have mentioned, like your "lips" logos too! Your missing has a "Music Hall/Variety Theatre" quality to it - I can easily imagine some old time song and dance man tip-tapping his way through it with cane and straw hat, complete with suggestive winks and gestures! Max Miller etc . . . now there's an idea for your next performance . . . ;-)
Regards,
A.E.

Hi Malpoet,
And thanks for your comments on "The Watercress Girl". Your feedback is most welcome. I took a stroll through your stuff and particularly enjoyed "Bobbing and Peering" - I have also found that the issue of prostitution is such a fertile source of material for poetry, I guess it's the concept that we are able to "buy" comfort from those who perhaps most need it theirselves. Also liked "Dad", althogh found it a little uncomfortable as it is close to my own experience of a relationship (or lack of) with my own late father. The ending sums it up perfectly, "Shame I never knew you. I am curious now you are dead." More power to your pen Sir!
Regards,
A.E.
