Hi Nicky, thanks for the explanation of Pearl Stitch - very interesting. Also thanks for your comments on 'Melt' - I am glad people saw different things in it, largely different to what was in mind when it was written :-)

hi isobel;
good points over P.O.M. - I agree with you.. I must admit I haven't any of them in months and months - it seems to have gone off in a direction I don't like anyhow to the sort off poetry I don't read or particularly enjoy anyhow. Hope you are good! x

Nice poems. I like the light verse stuff, although you make strong points in them.
I especially like the more conventional rhythm and rhyme formats. It's the sort of thing I'm trying to do myself.
Put some more up.

Hello Isabel
Many thanks for you comments on my submissions - I'm really new to this and feel like a fish out of water. Everybody seems to do such "weighty" stuff and mine's dead simple.
Anyway I checked out yours and I really like them both, especially "What's it all about?"
I look forward to more.

I don't think it would be a good idea to put a replacement poem there Andy. Next month's poem was chosen months ago cos they work ahead. It was chosen by Ernesto, which is the way it works. I don't think I'll be bothering to comment on any POM again - tee hee - this one and the last one has really finished me off. I take your point that it is sad to lose any poet off the site - I am not sure that Ernesto would have stayed much beyond winning POM though - that seems to be the trend - has last month's winner posted anything beyond his winning poem? It is a great pity that POM has caused such a schism in the site though - amongst poets who are here for the long haul.

Thanks for your comments on both "Losing Interest" and "Texting". Your views on language and mine seem to coincide quite a bit. However, I am slightly confused to the reference to "Brave New World" By Aldous Huxley when it was Nineteen Eighty-Four that I was referencing in "Texting". If you could clarify on that, I would appreciate it. Thanks,
- Josh

No worries, I was already at the ha-ha stage.
I was beginning to think the 'farewells' were trying to outdo Frank Sinatra's comebacks and farewell concerts.

Hello Graham
I'm not sure if I'm a 'we' but your comment brought your name/profile to my attention, and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed My Gaudi House. I thought it absolutely brilliant.
Perhaps it's closer to my ideas of the expression of love.

Hi Nicky
I have to smile. I must have contributed the least amount to the Ernesto debate, but he's left a 'comment' on my Profile (and Neil West's) saying that we'' both be surprised at November's POTM, which, presumably, he still gets to choose.
I just thought it odd that Neil and I are chosen for the comment
Have a lovely weekend

For some reason the kack seems to have been spread in our direction. How did that come about?

Hi Cynthia, thanks for commenting. Yes there is a significance in the 'pearl' stitch, very astute of you as always, the type of stitch chosen is as important as the fact that she was knitting. Does that make sense?
Hope you are well

Joshua, since you enjoy scholarship in its most magnificent sense, take care with spelling and grammar as you go on. I know song-writing sets its own rules, as does, sometimes, poetry too. But you are so talented, go for the highest ideals possible and be a future poet laureate, if the honour still exists some years down the line. At any rate, go for FAMOUS.
By the way, 'fuck' should be FUCK, an acronym for the legal term: ' For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I happened to read Christine's earlier comment.

Hi John!
Actually, French was my first language with my mother until I started school...
I teach French and I am working on a Master's Degree in French/International Relations - graduate in May : )
I have always loved language/communication - also studied Italian and Spanish.
It is wonderful to speak/read/write more than one language - would love to see you post something in Turkish... with translation of course.

Hi john, thanks for your comments on 'Pearl Stitch', It is open to interpretation and it's been nice to see the different takes on it from murder, to an illicit love affair to the hiding of the knitting for fear of looking silly, haha.
The main thread, is a chilling thought, HE is death ( or representative of the death of something )suddenly, and the knitting is life, created and full of intricacies like that of the patterns, which is left unfinished or discarded.
Hope you still like it.
Nicky.

Thanks for your comments Steve on pearl stitch.
Glad you enjoyed the symbolic 'knitting' - something that is classed as mundane can symbolise creation and the ongoing intricacies of life that unfortunately can get cut short when death suddenly claims us and we leave so much unfinished. I did try and leave it open to interpretation, and fascinating to see different takes on it.
Really enjoyed your 'I'm not gay but......'
Take care.
Nicky.

Hi Anthony
Appreciated the comment on Churchill. Yes I've visited Chartwell too and it had a similar impact. A special place.
The poem has arisen from reading Carlo D'Este's 800 page doorstop of a book 'Warlord', which was a gift - wouldn't have bought it for myself. Churchill was such a difficult and often unpleasant boy and young man, who irritated or alienated many of those he encountered. It gives pause for thought that a man with his history and personality profile was exactly what was needed in 1940.
He always believed in his star, in his destiny, seeking out risks in the belief that he wouldn't be touched. And (remarkably) he was right.
My hairs still stand on end when hearing the key broadcasts. Extraordinary.
Enough. One could rabbit on.

Steve, thank you for the comments on my poem 'the daylight comes with me' - appreciate you taking the time to consider it closely. I see your point and I did think about the repitition of 'charm' at the time but, as is my tendency, I thought 'fuck it' and left it as it was!! Lazyitis.

Hi Dave, thank you for your kind comment. I think there are many interesting and important figures that never made it to history's 'A list' but played just as significant a part in humanity's long journey to the present. i look forward to your new work, i enjoyed the Churchill poem here, do you have to read it in the style of 'we will never surrender'? Some great language too.

PS. Please please do comment on my poem. Honestly...I need it... I really have no idea whether anything I write has any literary merit whatsoever. The poem did make the recipient cry...but then it would...'cos it's about us...and she will forgive my cack handed metre and maudlin sentimentality and obscure references to stuff only we know about....but...is it a poem?
