Biography

Jackie Juno is a writer and creatrix of multi-media shows which combine her comedic, singing, dancing and artistic talents to full effect. Although Birmingham-born, she has now made a full recovery, having moved to Devon in 1983, and spent years living close to the earth in a travelling community. Rebelling at school paved the way for Art College, with its intensive curriculum of drug-taking and music appreciation, with a spot of painting thrown in. Her first stand-up comedy gig was on her 30th birthday, assisted by the supportive setting of Totnes Carnival and more than a few dry sherries. She has since appeared at Glastonbury Festival, WOMAD, Hammersmith Palais, Hackney Empire, Melkweg Amsterdam and Gidleigh Village Hall. (Twice). She currently lives on the edge of Dartmoor, and insanity, with her husband, young daughter and My Little Bloody Pony collection.

ODE TO TREES [Picture, if you will, a gang of middle-aged middle class middle England poetry types going to Liverpool, kidnapping a scouser off the street and taking him to a weekend poetry retreat in the countryside. Having never left the city before, said scouser discovers, to his delight, TREES - and inspired, pens his first ever poem. This would be it. Please read in broad scouse accent if possible.] Trees, trees, I love trees they’re the dog’s bollocks, they’re the bees’ knees. They’re fab, they’re great, they’re really really good; they’ve got leaves and branches; they’re made of wood. From TINY acorns grow mighty oaks. Birds really like em and so do blokes. Deciduous grow leaves, coniferous grow needles. A bit like Liverpool, they’re home to the beetles. Ants march on em Wasps nest in em Thrushes perch in em Owls rest in em Treecreepers creep in em Woodlarks lark in em Woodpeckers peck em Wooddtretters ... streatham Fungus will grow on em And lichen and moss Some people chop em down Cos they couldn't give a toss Being in nature helps you be free Once when on mushrooms I - became - a tree Sit beneath a tree tune into its aura Feel the vibrations of nature's flora Go hug a tree Embrace branches, kiss conkers Stroke bark, lick leaves Fondle nuts, go bonkers.

Jackie
Nice poems. I like the light verse stuff, although you make strong points in them.
I especially like the more conventional rhythm and rhyme formats. It's the sort of thing I'm trying to do myself.
Put some more up.
