Hi Isobel,

Thanks for your comments on Maternal Beacon I hope it has given you some positve vibes.

I've had this in my locker for some 20 years but have only just managed to let it flow/release, if you know what I mean. But I have found it to be a good theraputic walking stick!

I can relate to and like your 'A prosy poem'.
It hits the nail on the head for me, if only people in the loop would think the same!

Mike

Thanks for your comments on The Cruet Set, John. I was interested in your family story about the Doncaster mining job. My wife's Scottish great-grandfather was blacklisted for seven years after the General Strike. It caused a lot of hardship in his family, and even a political divide. Then in his seventies, or maybe even eighties, he became a Communist councillor in his home pit village. There must be poems about both those relatives to be written, some day. Greg

Hello Freda
What's a feminine ending? a la Longfellow

A few weeks ago I did a parody of Hiawatha's Wooing, telling of my wooing of my wife Annie. I tried to maintain a regular reference to Hiawatha as I was writing, but whether I achieved feminine endings I don't know

I removed my comments from your Liverpool poem. I thought John's comments were peurile, and may well distract from what you were trying to achive.

All being well, I'll see you at Sowerby. I don't think I'll be able to do my Hiawatha parody (luckily for you) as the first part is well in excess of 5 mins long, and part 2 is somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes. If I put it in very small print, do you think Sean will let me read 1 A4 poem?

Hi Edwin. I'm not sure if I can tell you how to make a poem less prosy - or if I should even attempt. All poets have their own voice - yours appears to be a more literal one - and that's fine if it works for you and your readership.

I see that the River Dee Railway Bridge is in a similar vein to your Bronte poem. The writer is like an eye - describing a scene - with that curious sense of detachment - even when describing tragedy.

I do write prosy poetry too, sometimes. And then there are other times when I go for the whole musical beat thing :) Because I am into performance poetry, I tend to like stuff that will work on a stage - so it has to flow and be understood easily...

Hello Win, thank you for your odyssey through my recent stuff. Always interested in your comments.
The Qatarda piece was a silly attempt at a three-line, one-word per line haiku. It turned out to be a bit of a challenge to get a seven syllable middle word.

Yes, I felt the piece, The Last Ferry was just a little overloaded and would as most pieces often do benefit from edit and rewrite.

Once again and as always many thanks for reading and comments

Good Evening Chris
How nice to hear from you and if only I could get the old pony and trap across to the heart of Liverpool we would see much more of one another.
Thank you for your reading and critiquing of The Last Ferry and your request to hear more of my childhood memories from the Island and particularly those that include my aunt Norma.
The poem was written from a current standpoint with my memories, longings and sadly the fact of growing older and hopefully demonstrating that memories want to be prominent within your own minds eye so much so that they can be heard clearly and smelt and , although just out of reach, touched. Unrequited they follow me to my bed and fill my nights with dreams and echoes of the past.
It will be very good to see and hear you again sooner than later I hope all is well in love and heath.
Once again many thanks for your comments,
Gus

Howdy Marianne

Wow - thank you, that means more to me than you will know. I decided to kind of 'force open' the creative doors recently, rather than waiting and letting it come as it pleases, cos I've got some spare time on my hands and I can't think of a better way to use it!

Anyway, been trying all manner of things (as is apparent!) and bouncing between feeling it's good, and total self-doubt, or rather, Satan, as my bloke Bob would have it hehe ;)

It's really good to hear your thoughts on it all, and also to hear that it's inspiring you. Wow - that's a HUGE compliment, coming from you.

I am really looking forward to seeing where you go :) :)

gibbering what an awful verb. gibberish as a noun is kind of cool suggesting something has come of it, all that gibbering. it reminds me of monkeys chattering. probably from gibbon or something.i often wonder what theyre on about with each other chirping away with no opposing thumbs and shrieking every now and then.

i was just throwing ideas at you like the primates throw stuff in zoos.

uninteligible is a good word. i dont know how to spell it :)

Ooo I've only just seen your note re BO heh - handy hint of the day...if you're replying to me, do it on MY profile otherwise I most likely won't see it unless I keep checking yours. If you reply on mine I get an email message :)

Anyhoooo...thank you very much for your notes on If and Inauthentic. I'm trying new things at the moment, have forced open the mental/creative doors that usually open just when they fancy, in order to use some spare time 'wisely' (that'll make a fucking change then), and blast out as many ideas as poss. Trouble is, now I'm fucking DELUGED with words and ideas and some are good and some are shite ;D but they won't leave me alone!!!

Ahh and I've just read your note to Anthony Emmerson up there - seems we may be doing the same sorta thing!

Haha re BO and standing next to people :D I usually nip to the shops on my way home from festies and I get the same reaction...people literally swerving around me with their faces wrinkled up :D Hehehe :D

Reet, seem to have written an epic! Best go do some work then. *cough*

The procedures are still there on the new thread - thank you both for your restraint on that. Recent difficulties highlighted the need for more visible grievance procedures. Now these are in place, there should hopefully be no repeat of recent events. There will always be kerfuffles on WOL - it is how we go about resolving them that needed to be made clearer.

Hiya Cynthia,

Thanks so much for the comment. To be honest I have tinkered with Eating Mango so many times I am beginning to get quite fed up of it!
The picture was the only one I could find on google that sort of fitted. I also think the tender age of the girl would start folk to a wondering! The story is a made up one and I do not think the facts are correct in any way but I tried to create that feeling of 'difference.'

again many thanks for reading and your time..appreciated :)
