Hello Alex
Welcome to Write Out Loud, we hope you are enjoying the site and we're really looking forward to reading some of your work. I know that you will be warmly welcomed by other WOL-ers too.
Thanks for having already uploaded a picture of yourself, it’s really good to see what our fellow poets look like.
Have a good look around, there’s always lots going on and if you have the time to make some comments about the work of other poets please feel free to do so, it’s often the best way to get some constructive feedback about your own work too.
There’s usually somebody who’ll help you out with any problems that you might encounter, so just ask and someone will get back to you.
WOL is a friendly, creative and unassuming place, so welcome from all of us once again.
The Write Out Loud Team.

Hello J.C. Thanks for the comment on "Foot In Mouth". Enjoyed your response. It reminded me of another view -that soccer is a game for gentlemen played by hooligans and rugby is a game for hooligans played by gentlemen.
Ho-ho.

thanks for the further comments on 'TILF' MC - 'formidable performance Poet?' - nah - I would prefer passionate about some, but not all, topics. But VERY passionate about looking after those who have so much to lose against those who do not. Interesting quote - and 75 years on from the second world war - we still do not learn eh?

just posted the following on 'an angel bathes in tears' - added there so folk won't get confused as those last 4 lines have gone - posted here as a personal thanks for your kind and insightful feedback:
"you're right Cynthia - after much deliberation (I feel like I've thrown one of my flock to the wolves) I've dropped those last 4 lines - and coming back to this poem now, I agree that the ending is stronger without those lines - thanks for the insight"

Hi Cynthia
Thank you very much for your encouragement on 'C' The Lanterns. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I would also like you to know that whilst reading through a back log of items in WOL I discovered your article on Performance Poetry.

Forewarned was indeed forearmed.
Wonderfully written article and superb checklist for anyone attending an event for the first time.
Having read your article and taking on board the very salient points, this week I made my first poetry reading, (albeit at a local folk club), and entered the 'Poems on a Beermat' competition. Thanks again.

You most definitely do 'get your meaning across' without a 'dig'. Trust yourself.

thanks for the kind comments on 'an angel bathes...' Cynthia - now I'm in a quandary, I like those last 4 lines because that's exactly what I wanted to say - but I also trust your observation about trusting my reader - but do I - every one of them? I'm not sure I get the meaning across well enough without the 'dig' at the end....so - a dilemma

I wrote or rather 'tapped' it into the keyboard quickly while looking at that postcard for sale on ebay .. the last resting place of all forgotten objects, probably went for 99p !! .. cheers.

A peaceful world is the best aim - but it seems
that ever since Cain and Abel were at odds, Man
has been following their example. The strangest thing about war is that much progress
seems to follow its horrors - a sort of awful
"leaps and bounds" scenario. Maybe it is our
fate to be aware yet be captive of our tendency
towards taking advantage or taking a position and not budging. Is this some form of cosmic
joke at Mankind's expense? I sometimes wonder.

Thanks for that Daniel. your right I originally wrote it about a more modern conflict but your right it does seem to work well in anytime. I have written some poems around the first world war but they seem a bit trite and others have siad it so much better.
Thanks again
