Isobel, thanks so much for your comments on "Pre-SocialMedia Times". No doubt our virtual lives are here to stay, but it's nice to pretend that the technology hasn't even been invented yet, and to focus instead on the person/loved ones right in front of us...at least every once in a while :)

thanks for your recent comments on 'Aldgate Tube Station' and 'Afraid Of The Dark' Harry - very perceptive in both cases.
The Aldgate station one was prompted by 2 articles in the Independent, one about the construction of the station over plague pits and the other about the ebola outbreak - it seemed too macabre a possibility not to try and tie the 2 events up.
As for 'afraid Of the dark' I was starting to doubt the subtlety, or not, of the device I was using to get the story (and twist) across - you have restored my faith in the use of subtle devices :-)
cheers

Thank you for the nice comment on 'Scoliosis' :-)
On the topic of 'Pre-Social Media times' I think the extent to which social media dominates our lives is definitely dependent on our location and it's culture. Yet I think it has greatly effected the majority of western societies! I live in England :-)

Haha Tommy, yeah who knows what a night out with the two of us could end up looking like. Sorry to hear about the epilepsy, but glad you now know what the issue is. Yes, for me it's type 1 diabetes...almost impossible to get the insulin dose just right every time because there are so many factors involved. Again, loved how you captured the out-of-control feeling.

Candice, you have it sussed. In my case epilepsy (a recent development) along with several types of dysphasia. But I am quite the "bonvivaunt" at social gatherings. Low blood sugar...diabetes? I could imagine us together on a night out (or shopping in Tesco's) and having simultaneous equations!

Hi,

thank you for the last post you have given me. I have been mulling it over, digesting it. Yes in many ways I think the same way as you do. But, I do fail to understand why the complete unfairness of our collective existence in this realm.

At least you understand the frustrations. Yet, you had the courage to voice your thoughts. My supposition is that many feel the same way as you and I, but are still fearful, both of themselves and the world in which they live.

You are brave Mister Newberry. I hope you can imbue that upon others, in some way, so they too, can explore freedoms of conversation.

Your comments were well received. Keep going blue.

Best wishes from Mike

Hello again Crystal. Just a short message to let you know about the way the blog pages work.
Only the most recent entry will be shown on the blog page, all previous ones will be archived. So if you put several on in one go, only the last one will remain visible without sorting through the older ones.
Basically if you are looking for comments, it is usual for the most recent one to be seen more easily and attract comments, the older ones less so.
I hope this helps!

very best regards, and welcome once again.

Graham

Hello Harry, just a short thank you for bothering to comment on Faith.

I always hesitate to reply to comments, after all we in effect ask for them by posting our work here on WOL.

I'm also often intrigued by the fact that readers always seem to assume some biographical significance in others' work or belief systems. Similarly to delve into those is an even more intriguing issue.

Suffice to say that let every man have his own level of faith. Mine is rooted closer to home in the skin and bones of my family and friends.

It's always good to receive a comment from yourself Harry. I truly respect your comments around the WOL estate.

very best regards,

Graham

Hello Mike - having read your entry on my home
page, I found a report on MSN about promised
change(s) in the treatment of mental illness.
It featured a 24 year old woman who had suffered from degrees of depression since
12 -13 years of age. The saving grace of how
she was given help by one worker after her GP
seemed to have failed to put her forward for
talking therapy provided some light in a long dark tunnel for her.
Your own circumstances - also from a young age - exacerbated by your later experiences and a
failure of society to adequately accommodate your situation reads like something from Dickens or Dostoevsky! Your fortune seems to
be your family when material comforts remain scarce. Wealth comes in various forms and your gratitude for that blessing is touchingly
obvious. Life is an unpredictable adventure:
grossly unfair and cruel, amazing and glorious,
it gives and takes away without any apparent
sense or sign of fairness or justice. But it is STILL life and has to be met and greeted
with as much positivity as possible. The
alternative comes soon enough.
Love to live - and live to love! You may not
have had a proper crack of the whip in the
former but you have the chance to prove the
latter. Many never have that in their lives.
We are what we are but it's what we CAN be that propels us on through the vicissitudes of this journey through life.
Bon chance!

Hi, thank you for commenting on my poem entitled 'For My Family.'

Yes it is a plea. During my life from very small, the things i loved were often taken away from me. Later in life that too became apparent. It's as though I have had to forgo my heart just to live. In saying that, even since my time in the military life itself just took turn after turn after turn for the worst. My health has been poor ever since, and my existence on benefits and low pensions exacerbating the poverty with which I grew up, where I even had to go to school wearing plastic clown shoes at one point.

I have never been one to gather the materials that other's have and take for granted, material wealth that is. I am not even allowed to buy my own house because no one will insure me because of my conditions since service in the Gulf.

Where i sit now in a run down terraced house, with an adorable wife and two fantastic children; has in essence only come about with battle after battle after battle with ill health and conditions we all fear.

It's not so much as been a journey, it has been in getting to this point, an insult of an experience that defies my compassion and intellect. Now I am at a point with my wife and children that i fear may be taken away once and for all by my own ill health and for that, I have never had chance for my heart to rest, prosper and admire the very people in my life that has made the process worth it. It is as though I am to be deprived by none other than jealous gods.

That's how it feels. I don't see many of my comrades suffering so much. Whereas, ever since a child, the love i have felt for other's, has always been taken away.

Thank you for commenting. It means a lot as i don't get many comments for my work. This poem, should my demise happen sooner, rather than later, it is hoped, will find its way to my wifes hands. That's my hope

Mike

You are joining a lot of people who find the same thing, Megan. Writing poetry is a good way to find your voice and say what you might not be able to express in other ways; if you can get out to an open-mic poetry event and share the poems, or just do so on this site, it is a way of having a conversation with other, friendly folks who might well appreciate your sharing your feelings with them.
Enjoy the site, and keep writing!
