Cheers Travis - much appreciated.

'You' is a girl, as it so often is. But I kind of liked the idea that the relationship could be a bit ambiguous. Does this work, in your opinion? Do I need to be more definite about this?

Who is the 'you' in the poem The Hill Runners?

The poem generally is compelling but the last line in Street View is excellent.

Hi Cynthia

In that poem I'm trying to get inside the head of a bird - which I can't really do - but I suppose it's my poem and my rules and I have to use my imagination! Female pheasants don't have the bright colours of the male, so that makes them 'drab' in my book. Again, I may be wrong, but I suspect that pheasants don't fall in love like humans and that their sex is pretty functional. THough to befair, it probably also is for some humans.

Harry,
Another comment before I've had time to thank you for the first one.
Thank you so much for your wonderful critique(s) of My Bullet.
I tried to play down the glory side of war as you percieved, in a way that Wilfred Owen and others have done and examine the after effects.
(hence the references to Tennyson's Charge of the Light Brigade, which I undestand he wrote as Poet Laureate)
I am honoured that you enjoyed it and that you must have read it more than once.
We do say shuffeling where I come from.
I read this poem at our poetry evening in Wigan last month, along with a poem by Leslie Coulson (Who Made The Law?) It was a respectful evening at The Old Courts, as The Tudor closed down. If you get the chance come up to our new venue. It would be good to meet up again.
Best wishes and thanks again
Dave

Hi Lynn, thanks for your comment. :)

On the topic of another dog, I think that will wait a little while - we might decide to move again early next year, so it would make sense to postpone acquiring another woofer until then.

The idea of being a little way outside of town appeals, not 'out in the sticks' again, but just far enough to make dog walks a rural path rather than pounding pavements, hehe.

Keep smiling :) Dave

Hello all

As you know, we are thinking about making a poetic contribution to an anti smoking campaign in Heaton Norris. Aside from the obvious health issues, there is also the problem of people tossing dimps out of upstairs windows of high rise flats.

Here is the email by Naomi Whitman, the Creative Media Centre Project Manager:

'We’re still in very early stages of the project at the moment and are looking at a co-comission model with a group of residents. I think we’re also going to do some work around a research model to really understand what piece of work will best fulfil the health agenda for reducing smoking - we want it to be pretty hard hitting and thought provoking!

'I love the sound of the kinds of work you do, perhaps a meet up to explore further, as well as for other ventures might be helpful?'

So, please feel free to post your proposals and ideas.

Hello Isobel.

Not surprised you can't make out the friend's friends friend poem.
I came over all Winston Plowes and decided to try something experimental but unlike Win used to do, I didn't explain it, but just waited to see if there was any comment or interest in it.

So first of all thanks.

I can't imagine that you will have enough time on your hands to try this but it is quite simple.

First pick a friend of your Facebook page and write down their last entry. Next pick one of their friends from their page and do the same thing. Keep doing this for seven friends or so (it's really interesting what comes up).

Then rearrange the lines into some sort of prose.

Sorry for the confusion.

Graham

I agree with your further comment on 'Philae' Cynthia - if a scientist were to argue a distant comet denies the existence of God simply because it is a remnant of some 'big bang' my question would be 'who, or what, created the big bang' ;-)
that said - I am pretty agnostic - so I would only be playing devil's (who he) advocate ;-)
