Please post what is on your mind. Its not great stuff but id like to here how others describe the afterlife (Heaven/hell/nothing/anything you believe) through poetry.

Hi Cynthia
Far from being and 'encroachment' your insightful comments are as ever an encouragement. You seem to really 'get' my poems - which is not always the case with others! I'm at my mother's at the moment and asked her how come she had those books. I think she was just a victim of a 'hard sell'! They've long gone now , but I wouldn't actually mind reading them now as a 'grown up'.

Hi Lyra,
only just picked up your comment. Thanks so much for your kind words about my poem. I have just read your poem and it really took me back to the grim jobs I worked in the past. Really nicely done.

Harry, many thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated. No, the Red Flag never did it for me either, but I remember watching on the news when the miners marched back to work in 1985 with their banners held high. That certainly did. I hope you're keeping well, and a very happy new year to you. Greg

Beautiful stuff! I particularly like A Casting Off - it is both visceral and controlled, which makes it strong in describing a tight-wound life.

Hi M.C.
I'm Hoping to be floating in formaldehyde for at least three years post demise, having donated what's left of me. About twelve years ago. To the "Professor of Morbidity" at the Manchester Medical School. That's on condition he has enough room in the fridge when the time comes. And it's all FREE.

The Christmas Party
Pull a cracker
enjoy corny joke
wear silly hat.
Spill vintage wine
tell a secret
no one knew.
Crimson red face
of the person
leaving so abruptly.
Perhaps they might
not come back
now common knowledge.

Paris silent
You require a Paris street,
With the roaring silence chest
While Paris is cold, hostile ..
As a silent funeral, unknown ...
Require fever, anxious, in panic ...
Looking at Hotel "Duplex"
Require road "Emil Zola"
Looking at Hotel "Mirabeau"
Require road "Sever" "Cambronne"
But you're not! There you are!
Looking at "First Hotel" ...
Require rue "Pondishery"
"Motte Piquett" "Piero" coffe "
Looking at "Bonne Nouvelle"
"Petit Duke" There at the Arch of Ludovigut ...
"Aboukir" "Bastije" ... ??
If you are not! Where are you?
A hand with sweet Stroke hair.
As once streets of Tirane
When I was a child, at come in hand with you
It was the most beautiful time of my life
Respire! I understand where are you,,
You feel very close me..I feel
As once ....My Mother...

Hi Laura - thanks for the lovely comments on my gannet poem. I managed to record it myself using a programme called Garage Band on a friends computer. It's the first time I've recorded effects and stuff myself - loved doing the echoes! The only instrument I used was a little child's xylophone, just tapping two or three notes. Setting up all the echoes you get lots of accidental rhythms going on. Hope you have a great Christmas! xx

Hello Zach,
Just a thought,
I've noticed that you have posted a lot of your work in one session onto WOL.
This is okay but you will find that only the last one posted is shown in the blogs list (the others are archived) albeit visible in title form.
Usually, to get comments it is best to post one at a time giving others time to see the work and consider it more carefully.
Another idea (which several of us do) is to archive your work on a personal blog site and place a link to it on your personal profile here on WOL.
I hope this helps,
regards,
Graham

Masks have a hard time getting past the eyes, or the knuckles: they speak clearly. I'm trying to find an old Christmas one of my own. I know it's tucked away somewhere. Pity I can't quote it from memory; I'm just plain terrible like that.

Hello Gary - you're new here hey? Welcome to WOL :)
I absolutely LOVE Street View. It's exactly the kind of thing that I do, observing people, and I was struck by the compassion in it and obviously the poetry. Love how we never find out exactly what went on between the two of them. Spitting spiteful winter wind - cracking line.
Hope you enjoy this place as much as I have over the last few years and I look forward to reading more of your writing :)
