Thank you for the very kind comments on Puthering Laura!
Puthering, that's a real word eh? In my childhood household it was a term for any seemingly chaotic action, quote my mother:
"that flour is just puthering all over the shop"

Welcome to Write Out Loud, Rob. Enjoyed this poem about the ramsons - didn't know that was another name for wild garlic. I like the "star-white flowers" that "burst like fireworks". And if you're looking for feedback, I just stumbled over the phrase "a floating balloon", where the rhythm feels slightly wrong on that line, I thought.

"American Wake", captures a mood. Captures something at least that stops the reader stampeding past it, giving it the attention it deserves.

Hi Vicki, thanks for commenting on Ad Infinitum - sorry you 'get it' - way too common an experience I'm guessing, but a little violent poetic revenge is always fun ;)

Hi John
You caught the spirit, as usual.
Long time no-see, but am currently living in Scotland with new partner, and it was on the way back up north that the pheasant/quail met its end

Hi Cynthia
Just a short note to let you know how much I have enjoyed reading your sample poems.
In particular I like "The Dream-footer". It conjures up such strong images. The joy of the bare-footed dance and its release made me nod and smile.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your work, both past and future. There are so many good poets on this site!
:-)

Hi Ray
Glad you enjoyed "The Rebel". Eccentricity rules!
(Talking of which, you didn't imagine Jimmy Greaves; I had mentioned him on Graham's profile when I commented on his "Sis" poem)
Stay well

hello Jim. Thanks for comment on That was the Seventies. I just noticed your mention of Jimmy Greaves who I saw briefly at Spurs in 1970. Without boring you , I remember Gilzean backward heading a goal at the same match , I think. Owzat.
I agree with Laura, your sample poem is excellent. There is something magnificent about eccentricity. Let's hope it doesn't get squeezed out of society any time soon. Ray

Hello Jim and welcome to WOL. I really like your two blogged poems, some lovely use of language/sonics/ideas, but wondered why you hadn't yet blogged your sample poem, cos that's my favourite one of all :)
I look forward to reading more of your work.

A dream of a poem, very well done. Does exactly what it says on the tin. But the tin is painted by Degas, an acrobat hangs on by her teeth to spin faster and faster... given time.

Thanks for your comments on THE BIRTH, Ray, It is not my usual style as my instinct is to rhyme and so I am happy that an attempt at free verse should resonate.
Re THE RAGBAG SHEEPDOG I have had a couple of sheepdogs and a border collie previously and love the breed. Unfortunately now I have a shared drive and it would be too expensive to gate my property. Your imagery brought back happy memories.

Hi Cynthia, I live just north of Sydney, so Christmas is always a hot time, but I love it, very relaxed, summer holidays for the children etc. A lot of restaurants do 'Christmas in July' which is a great time to enjoy the traditional pudding and food which is all a bit much in the heat. Needless to say, we don't get a white Christmas (or even a white winter in most places) but still sing all the traditional songs anyway. I love the idea of a white Christmas, it looks so pretty, but I'm sure the reality of the cold would be quite a shock to my system :)

Hello Kelly,
Re: samples, usually members just post one poem on their sample page (which can be changed occasionally of course) to give a flavour of your work. The blog section is for new efforts and/or commenting and the discussion forum for having a say in current conversations or starting your own.
I hope you settle in well,
Graham
