Stu, I had been anticipating your 'visit' to Sale for months. I'm sure glad I didn't miss it.
Re 'Four Trees and A Girl'. If it is possible to have a 'favourite' of one's own work, this might be mine. Or not. I often read it just for myself because it makes me feel so good deep inside.
I find this element of detachment making it possible to read my own poems objectively very intriguing. And it certainly isn't self-love. Or arrogance. If a poem of mine doesn't reach that level of separation, I lose it. Or set it aside for more consideration. Usually the latter, because I value the power of a 'first idea'.

I so appreciate your comments.
Thanks for the WOL/Sale support.
Having nothing in common but titles by alphabetical 'C', those poems gave me a challenge to veer off from a 'theme', letting each poem carry its own weight, totally. Maybe that was the extra impetus, desperation!

Hello Andrea, your humility is refreshing. I've been writing for thirty odd years and i'm still not sure i'm a poet yet. Still, the only way to achieve that aim is, as you suggest, to keep at it, and one day hopefully you will be.
Your rhetorical question in the Samples section above about 'a Pound of makeup on the face and not an ounce of happiness' is well put. Keep at it. Good luck.
Travis.

Hi Stu
It was great to catch up with you last night. your poetry was fantastic as usual. As I mentioned last night it is worth attending Marsden Jazz festival in October. Julian will be publishing it no doubt closer to the time. Also around the same time is the Chorlton literary festival which is around the same time and will also be on the WOL web site nearer the time. Both of these events get packed so they are good places to get known. All the best with the book. I look forward to more posts. Hope to see you again soon
Cheers
Martin

Hello Harry, hank you for your comment on the poem Here for a while. What you say is interesting and poses some questions. In nature we see cycles of events which focus on birth, death and resurrection. The seasons bear witness to this. It is no coincidence that Easter is celebrated in Spring a time of new birth and life in the world about us. A thought which inspires hope. Thank you for this. Keith

Loved 'Sometimes', it reminds me of a poem I wrote called 'Wardrobe Mistress' - similar subject.
I liked the slow build up and the 'beautiful' pay-off.
I'll keep reading - catching up with your words...

Teenagers.
And females not so young either. The saddest sight I ever saw on a tram was a young girl/teen putting on make-up until her whole face looked like an audition for clown-school, a full paste job with a clear outline that completed the mask effect.
I'm sure she thought she was much prettier. And she looked ghastly. Actually ugly. Sometimes I HATE the 'beauty business'; the deliberate exploitation of youthful vulnerability and the degradation of charming, natural beauty.
And those perfume commercials! I almost growl at the TV, wanting to throw a heavy pot through the screen. They are obnoxious!

Hello MC,
Sorry I only just saw your comment on my song Sammy Be Goode and the issue you have in accessing my Just Giving page via FaceBook.
I don't want to seem presumptuous but if you would like to make a small donation to the Teenage Cancer Trust I have attached a link to their webpage where you can do so directly rather than needing a FaceBook page to access my JustGiving one.
Many thanks,

Hi Daz, thanks for your comment and message. Please never under estimate your poetry. I have just read Hey Hipster and it is really good. You are right about conformity as it is nothing more than a form of conditioning which robs people of their very inner being. Keep writing mate. I love it. Keith

MC, thank you for your comments on the content on the poem A Frontier of Contrast. It makes for some interesting reading. I agree with your use of the word indolent as this can apply to most Latin countries as I well know having lived in Spain for many years. There can be no doubt that California is an economic giant which will always attract wealth but what it has invested in its pristine beauty it lacks in culture. America is highly multicultural which cannot be said of its southern neighbours who are more monochrome in their complexion. America has no cohesive culture but a dynamism to succeed; to create wealth. Yet when the wealth has been created they are stymied in their search of culture. Thank you again for you comments which I value. Keith
