Mother

You neglected me,

didn’t protect me,

abandoned me,

chose an abusive man

over your children...

I forgive you.

I give you the

unconditional affection

never afforded me,

because I love you

despite everything

and I don’t want

the past having

power over me.

Thank you Dorothy. I appreciate your feedback. I came back a couple times to delete this poem, but I believe the poems you want to delete are the ones the world needs to read. My hope is that no one can relate, but my fear is that many do. For me, poetry is a way to acknowledge the pain, let it go, and move on.

This is such a sad poem, your gentle nature shines through and you are an example to all of us,

Dorothy
