The slow tissue paper of lies

entry picture

Inflation is going down

Though you know it’s rising sky high

He gets to the dispatch box

And says 2+2 are 5

“No, it’s 6” scream the backbenchers

“It’s 7” “No it’s 9”

The thin burning tissue paper

Of lies

Corruption is a badge of honour

The truth is a lie

Just sit back and watch

The country burning from the inside

The thick corrosive wound festers

And democracy dies

DRM - there is a reason why the use of the words "liar" and "lie" are taboo in Parliamentary discourse. Care to guess why it's so?
I take the view that in a business in which even the words "yes"
and "no" can be fraught with danger and disaster to their users,
the words "honourable" and "hypocrisy" make uncomfortable
companions. Posing as one thing whilst performing as another
has long been the accepted pretence in politics.

Thanks, David. Good to see a bit more protest poetry here. There's a joke doing the rounds ... perhaps you've seen it? A passer-by asks Boris Johnson for directions. Johnson points him one way, his interrogator goes the other. 'Where are you going?' the PM cries. 'Don't you watch the news?' is the reply. Well, it made me laugh. Whatever BJ says, the opposite is true, is turning out to be a very reliable rule of thumb. The statistics authority made that very point to him only yesterday, when he claimed crime had gone down, when it had actually gone up. What can you do with such a man?

Politics = the business of manipulating the word "truth" to suit a
purpose.
Nothing changes. We are just more aware of it, that's all.
