Asters

As the days get shorter
and the nights get longer
The garden still dazzles
with this blast of colour

Vivid, vibrant asters
on late October days
Brighten up the garden
with their magenta blaze

A lovely floral show
such a radiant sight
Welcoming me back home
in the late evening light

Woodland Walk

A woodland walk in autumn
the perfect time to explore
As leaves dance down to the earth
carpeting the forest floor

Towering trees disappear
heading into misty skies
Autumn and October brings
so many treats for the eyes

Fiery Glow

Stormy scenes have blown away
now we welcome calmer skies
The sun sets the sky ablaze
with this glorious sunrise

Birds and trees bear witness
to mother nature’s morning show
As night gives way to day
igniting this fiery glow

Swans At Dusk

Swans at dusk
gliding over the water
inky black
in the fading evening light
Soft ripples
gently radiate outwards
Calming scenes
as the day welcomes the night

RIP Keeley

Remember those days when we were young
living our lives without a care
Apart from the clothes and the make up
and of course the style of our hair

We took holidays to Majorca
where we sang and danced all through the night
Drinking far too much beer and wine
the mornings were not a pretty sight

We queued to change our travellers cheques
into Spanish pesetas
Our money not so saf...

Mandarin Ducks

Adding to the autumn bonanza
with their own colour and style
Our local mandarin ducks
are guaranteed to bring a smile

The males all flashy and showy
with their bold “look at me plumage”
The females more understated
but still an endearing image

October Morning

Glorious October morning
beautiful, crystal clear skies
To welcome this brand new day
another delicious sunrise

Through the autumnal woodland trees
rising sun glistens so bright
Like the most precious of gems
radiating rays of sunlight

Seasonal Bounty

Autumn’s seasonal bounty
decorates shrubs, bushes and trees
Brightly coloured berries and fruit
quivering on the cool breeze

It’s wonderful to watch the birds
as they are having a ball
Feasting on the open buffet
rich pickings for one and all

It’s The Liz Truss Show

It's the Liz Truss Show

It's time to make more u turns
It's time to grow more pies
It's time to meet the Muppet
in charge of all our lives

It's time to make more mistakes
It's time to tell more lies
It’s time to see the next MP
with their eyes on the prize

Why did they vote her in
I guess we'll never know
It's like a kind of torture
To have to watch this sh1t show

So no...

Autumn Morning

The sun white against a young sky
as a brand new day is dawning
A slightly unsettled night
gives way to a glorious morning

The autumn trees are clinging on
to the last of their greenery
A day for collecting conkers
and taking in the scenery

Verbena

Delicious vibrant clouds of purple
sitting atop lofty stems
A mini forest of verbena
dazzling amethyst gems

Lighting up the autumn days
and a feast for butterflies and bees
Trembling and quivering
to the rhythm of the chilly breeze

Metallic Hues

Autumn has truly arrived
bringing a fine feast for the eyes
A bounty of vibrant colours
backdropped by the bluest skies

Nature’s showiest season
paints the most beautiful displays
A palette of metallic hues
setting the countryside ablaze

Fishy Tail

We got out early this morning
for a brisk walk and short run
It was a pleasant temperature
under blue skies and Turkish sun

A short stop before heading home
at the municipal cafe
A cappuccino for my husband
just water for me today

We watched the hobby fishermen
pulling out their catch one by one
Just bread on a hook and line
I guess it’s their idea of fun

We weren’t the ...

Herdy Mug Competition

If you visit the Lake District
you may see sheep that look like me
Many fine flocks of Herdwick sheep
roam the countryside wild and free

High up on the craggy mountains
low down on the grassy meadow
Besides the vast lakes and small tarns
and where the streams and rivers flow

They may have the same smiley face
and the same charismatic ways
The difference between us is
they onl...

Acer Trees

The acers are looking so beautiful
as their autumn colours intensify
Before they shed their coats and go to sleep
until the chill of winter has passed by

Garden Robin

Our little garden robin
so adorable and sweet
Whilst we potter in the garden
he searches for bugs to eat

He wakes us up each morning
keeps us entertained through the day
Charming us with his singing voice
and his inquisitive ways

Grand Finale

On this delightful October morning
the trees are singing their autumn colours
Their finale conducted at full pelt
none more loudly than this pair of acers

Gold with a hint of fiery embers
and crimson so deep you could dive right in
The autumn show has come to our
town
let the dazzling performance begin

Pie Off

Pie and mash, Pie and peas
Pie filled with cash grown on trees!

How do I grow a great big pie
can someone please explain to me
Not filled with chicken, steak or cheese
but one that’s stuffed full of money

I need to grow a great big pie
a pie to feed the whole country
An equal slice for everyone
so no one will ever go hungry

Some people say you can’t grow this pie
they may...

Just for fun

Autumn

Autumn, it’s the time of year
for nature’s most spectacular show
As verdant countryside hues
are replaced with a radiant glow

Trees once thick with deep green foliage
turning shades of crimson and gold
The colours of their final goodbye
so wildly intense and bold

Eternal Cycle

Sunrise in the local woodland
a warm glow appears on the horizon
The dawn chorus sounds loud and proud
as the birds serenade the morning sun

Signs of autumn beginning to show
the first leaves already on the floor
Following the eternal cycle
that will continue for ever more

HE, 29 Others And Me

Yesterday I woke up in London
we arrived late the night before
We had a good reason to be there
but still a little unsure

On Tuesday morning this week
I received an email out of the blue
It said I had won a competition
which I couldn’t believe was true

I thought it was some sort of scam
so I phoned up to check it out
They told me I had definitely won
and I shouldn’t have any ...
