Hi Isobel - thanks for your comment over End of Summer II and I'm pleased you like it - always pleased when you comment - this one of my favourites must admit and there is certainly other pieces to come in this sequence (Currently aiming for 4 or 5)..

Hope you are good. Maybe see you soon at either Salford or Tyldesley maybe? xx

Thanks for your comments on Bagni di Lucca, Isobel. It's true, my stuff does teeter on the edge of prose a lot of the time. This one still needs a bit more work on it.

Hi Isobel;

Thanks for the comment over 'My hometown'.. Oddly enough the last line was the line I was most worried about, but that's the one everybody is loving so clearly I was my own worse judge there - lol.

Hope you are good

See you soon x

Andy N x

P.S. - The piece is about my love affair with my hometown (Stretford).

Hi Isobel! Thanks for leaving a message and your kind invitation - it sounds like a really good day which I would have enjoyed. Sorry I won't be able to make it - my mother-in-law's in intensive care in hospital at the mo in a coma so we will be visiting her. I haven't been over to Wigan for a bit because I cycled from Land's End to John o'Groats earlier in the summer and was working loads and practising for it. I hope to get over again before the year is out - I really enjoy hearing you all and it's a top night out! - hopefully when she is better. Hope you have a great walk and the weather stays fine for you. Take care, love Stevexxxxxxxxx

Thank you so much for your kind comments on "The Patient". It is hard for people to understand addiction, and unfortunately there is a stigma that goes along with it also. People don't realize it is a disease, like diabetes, and often hereditary.

I'm trying to catch up on the comments people left on "The Patient". It was encouraging to get some responses.

Thanks for listening over the last week or so. I appreciate you taking the time. I also need to catch up on reading and commenting on others' work and I promise to read yours too!

Hi Isobel,

No doubt you're right re the mindless thuggery and looting, "free stuff" seems to be the prime motivation. What I was getting at is that the law and morality/ethics should apply equally to all, whether you are a police officer, tabloid journalist, politician, investment banker or a disaffected youth.

Cameron spoke yesterday about bringing people to justice and fixing our broken society; his comments were aimed at the recent looters and arsonists. They could just as easily have applied to all those in the aforementioned categories, but were purely aimed at the recent troublemakers. As was said before, the latest spate of wrecking has given the Tories "a good day to bury bad news." Now the government is focused on punishing the perpetrators of last week's misdemeanours, and taken the heat off his cosy chums in the press and banking sectors. The cost, according to the Grauniad, of the riots is somewhere around £100 million. The bankink crisis/bailout cost the country an estimated £7 trillion - and no one was prosecuted. Kind of puts it in perspective for me. The motivation is exactly the same - pure, undiluted and unrestrained greed.

I see so much that's similar to the organisation I work for. The shop-floor workforce are scrutinised and disciplined for the slightest mistake, yet higher managers get away with the most monumental cock-ups, scams and totally unacceptable behaviour. We will never be an equal society until the same set of rules is applied to everyone.

That's a rather more long-winded explanation of the point I was trying to make - and I'm not disagreeing with you at all!

(I'll shut up now, I'm beginning to remind myself of someone I'd rather not be compared to!)

Regards,

A.E. X

Thanks so much for your encouragement. When I was here last year, even with critiquing others, I never quite connected. You're right though, it really is the way to get people to read your work.

Hang in there - something will come to you! I was having a dry spell myself and was getting a bit worried. I’m also into photography and usually go back and forth between that and writing anyway but I seemed to be uninspired for a little too long poetry-wise. Then one day, I as looking at one of my photos and heard the first few lines of a poem go through my head. So I started writing when inspired by my photography. I’ll be posting those but at the moment, I seem to have hit another block. I guess you never know where your inspiration will come from – but life sure does have a way of eventually sending you something to write about!

And thanks very much for taking the time to read and comment on “Waiting For A Star To Fall”. Very much appreciated!

Hi Isobel - thanks for writing me back! I very much agree that page poetry is from the heart and I can't write it any other way than for myself, which is why I post everything I have on each site. In my case also, it's definitely not commercial.

I do look forward to feedback, both to learn and grow but more to connect. It is a great privilege to me when something I write about my life's experiences resonates with someone else.

I've been on 3 other sites and one was a tremendous experience. Unfortunately, one bad apple spoiled the whole barrel so since then, I've been looking for another site but haven't found the feedback, connections, and evolving friendships that I experienced on that site. Sometimes what I run into is a site with a well established "clique". Sometimes, like I mentioned, I run into other poets that just "don't get" my writing or are uncomfortable with it. Obviously I miss it or I wouldn't be blathering on and on wasting your time! That comment in your Biography just struck me as ironic since it's similar to what has been going on somewhere in the back of my mind lately.

I like what you said about the social interraction that happens...how life finds its way into our poetry and discussion...and how we share it. I guess to sum it all up, the key is finding the right place.

I think it's really cool that you're on stage and wish you the best of luck. I admire the courage it takes to do that - good for you!!

Lisa

Hi Isobel - I was reading what you wrote in your Biography and it struck me that poets wanting others to read their work may need to think about their target audience (the people on each poetry site) and tailor which pieces they post accordingly. Or just realize that some sites have like-minded people that just "don't get" what one has written. I've found that to be true since I've posted on more than one site. Where one group will celebrate you, another will almost ignore you. Ironic, yes?

"Just my thoughts for the day...."

Hope all is well,
Lisa

Have got a few days off now so will have a good trawl through the recent stuff. The two pieces that I put on today have been bubbling under but not tidied up until today. Regards, as always. Thanks Isobel (Rebel...) I must say I don't do drugs either, and I'm not bi-polar thank god. Keep falling in love though - damn! I'd LOVE to do more performance stuff, it has (the little I HAVE done) made me feel more confidant. But there's very little going on down here that I can get to. But I'm always saying that - I should maybe try and start something. I'm feeling great, but I've got to the stage where little old ladies at bus stops come up to me and start saying "Of course, in OUR day" and inwardly I go "FUCK OFF!!!" And women in my pottery class, if men/sex are mentioned, say "Thank god all THAT'S over!" and I want to say "Hang on a tick!" It all started last Saturday when someone at a writer's group I go to was surprised I needed money for the bus. She's DEAD MEAT! (Actually, she's very nice - I'll forgive her one day!)xx

Hi Isobel, thanks very much for taking such an interest in The Clackety-Clack. Funnily enough, I found myself talking to a poet who had read a very moving poem about her father in the interval at the South magazine reading last week. I spoke about this feeling of my dad being close to me a couple of times in the first three months after he died, and then really never experiencing that feeling ever again. She said she had experienced exactly the same thing after her father's death. I was quite startled by this. I wonder if there's anyone else out there with similar experiences? The final two lines of my poem are really about my realisation about us both taking the same tube and rail line home towards the end of our working lives, and feeling quite comforted by this.
