I said what I said about that poem because of the poem..nowt else. It IS a fantastic poem...simple as!

I would have said exactly the same to a stranger....I guess that affords a certain integrity.

I did mean it about Cynthia; your poem was salutary, necessary and original as the anniversary wave washes over us. A wake-up call; a shock of cold water. But of course it may been rather off-message as far as the judges were concerned. Who knows? If he'd stayed with Cynthia perhaps he would have continued to write more great songs. I always resented Yoko for apparently breaking up the band. But on the other hand she made him happy. I'm just obsessed with Lennon, and the contradictions involving art and life that he represents, and, of course, the Sixties and the associations and memories his music evokes; his 'cheek' that was really anger; always have been, always will be.

Wow that was quick! :D Ahhh, well it wasn't quite the poetry alone that made me love myself, but it was all tied up with words, and language, and creating my own self. The poems DO lay waste to that inner chaos though...can't begin to tell you the relief I feel from writing it all out. Makes so much sense to do it, feels so RIGHT. Thanks :) Feels good, don't it :D

Eh up - yes, it could change the world I believe if we were all given that clean slate, if all of us damaged ones could break the cycle. Unfortunately it doesn't often work out that way, but I was damned sure that my lass would not suffer the same way I did...that she would know herself to be loved, and would be treated with dignity and respect, as should all humans.

Thanks for your thoughful comments on 'Lost'. The irony of it being lost is not lost on me. :)

It was a callow effort from some years ago...long before I joined WOL. I dug it out because I admired some other Ghazals that were being posted...far better than mine.

Being lost can be fun, frightening and...bliss.

Hi - "I love" - (sorry, been away) - the horrid finger picture - so, you've never seen The Piano? -you've missed out on a first-rate sniffle-movie. Her husband chops off her finger (cos she's a-shaggin someone else = fair enough?) - anyway, at the end her real love has her made up this silver finger, cos playing the piano with one digit missing's not quite the same: Chopsticks, maybe, but Flight of the Bumblebee...

Hi Isobel, like you I tend to skim through them till something catches my eye. Thats because there are some poets who dont give leeway and continue to put up too many blogs at once. I was like that for some time till I became more thoughtful of my own verse and of course, other people. Nevertheless, you are one of the poets I do take time to read as I like your work, and also, you have been here for time proving that you do have a genuine interest in poetry, and this site is not a site you abuse just to get something off your chest. I really do like this site, and in the main I enjoy the rich and varied work. And as said before, I like your work too. Thank you for posting a comment on 'Comes and Goes a Day.' I guess you know what the poem is about, but in case you don't, my wife and I recently lost our second baby to miscarriage. Anyway darling, keep working and posting your poetry. It works! Further, just when i thought nobody was interested in my work, you have come and saved the day. Thank you.

Mornin Isobel! Ta for comments on my little experiment. Re the guide to puberty book, personally I would MUCH prefer my daughter to be able to have the knowledge of, and access to masturbation/vibrators. That's by the by now cos she's 19 - but wouldn't YOU have loved your own vibe at 15? Damn sure I would. If you can satisfy yourself sexually, there may be much less of an urge to get someone else to do it for you, or at the very least, sate the urge to do it RIGHT NOW without protection. And shouldn't girls learn to love their own bodies, and know what they are capable of? That's a precious gift - not something to be muddied with other people's 'morality', don't you think?

Anyhow, food for thought :)

Isobel, I meant the style of writing, the choice of expressions. Your thoughts and words are lovely in Beloved. I find them 'romantic' but always enduring. I couldn't begin to write anything like those last three lines because I don't think that way. I would feel like an idiot, using 'uncertain skies', 'immortalise' or 'eternal in my words of love'. At worst, I might make a jest of them, which in respect for other people, I just won't do.

I don't know if I could ever follow your poetical lead as shown in Beloved. I am so pragmatic I find that type of expression eludes me. Romanticism was never my strong point; I enjoy reading about other poets' experiences, but I've never been there. If I copied emotions they would sound false as hell. BTW, some time back I changed The Last Kiss to Beloved, but it is still 'in your face' poetry.

Hi - agreed totally with all of it. the reason I post some that are daft or "really not that great" is that I've had a few published & almost without exception, it's the duff one I've included to "make up the numbers" that gets chosen over the ones that I think of as good & the exact same thing happens on WOL - no accounting for taste. xx

Thank you so much Isobel for your comments particular with regard to the subject matter.

To the many of us who are or who have been pet owners the death of an old family pet is more heartbreaking than we could ever have imagined the loss irreplaceable.

In remembrance special moments are poignant such as a family gathering in the garden late at night the air giddy with sausage and burger and where the moon and stars were just a jump away.

Hi - hydrate - yes, that's what I meant & I agree totally - that spoken (or in your head) "hydrate" seems just fine, but the written word looks a little incongruous - but as you're perfoming, it's not an issue.
I did very nearly ask you once if I could include one of yours on my website (under favourites), but the only reason I didn't was that I'd just added one of Kealan Cody's, one of Ann Foxglove's & one of Anthony Emmerson's - so it was starting to read like a who's who of WOL :) xx

Hi Isobel, glad you liked Currawong, the product of a three-week trip to Oz, mostly staying with friends, two years ago. Interesting what you say about the isolation: I was struck by what an Australian tourist said to me up in northern Queensland, how she envied us being able to pop over to Madrid or Rome on easyJet when for them it's an eight-hour flight to Indonesia. As a consequence she'd never been outside Australia. PS Good on yer for spotting "desert". It was meant, inasmuch as any of the words in my poems are meant!
