Hi Beulah, thanks for your recent comment on Lets Hear It... its one I would def agree with! As for the nose cutting thing, its an old joke with bro n me, he once did it by accident when playing a joke on me and Ive never let him forget it. Couldnt let him revel in all that admiration for too long, not good for his constitution!!!!

hello Cynthia, thanks for the comment on Death Comes To Fleetwood. I do see what you mean about it being confusing, I think when I wrote it I imagined it like an aerial view then swooping in to details if that makes any sense at all.
Thanks

Hello Greg,
thanks for reading and commenting on the poem. I really wasn't sure whether to post it but then did, then when it had been commented on I did think again about it being 'car crash' writing and thought about removing it, then thought it would look worse to remove it if you see what I mean.
I very much appreciate your comments, particularly about the structure of it, an unusual one for me and one that I think fights with the content. I had to impose structure on it to keep it from turning into an amorphous mess of emotion and I'm pleased you appreciated it....Thanks very much,
Rachel

Ooh Ann, I did! I have only a hazy recollection of the night (it was my birthday so I may have had a little glass or two) I got applauded and have had some nice feedback which was lovely. I have now caught up on my ironing so may frequent th'site a bit more ...till next week's ironing starts threatening to bury the children!I love the Ladybird poem by the wayCheersRachxxx
ps I read 2 new ones I wrote for Preston is My Paris (a local zine), they wanted contributions and I can't resist that, one of them, 'Brief Encounter' got published in it and they were launching the issue that night so I had to read my contributions, Next time I'll do stockings nude.....but for stockings(possibly!)

Hello Louise, cheers for the comment, I worry about how I come across performance wise cos I think I just stand there and read, but I do enjoy it. I do appreciate seeing proper performers like you. I just feel horribly nervous and concentrate on locking my knees so they don't send me off the stage like a pneumatic drill. Glad you liked Dad :)
Thanks

- "I'm not at all sure that true love exists. I think it is just a dream that people chase" - I think this is really sad - I just sat here 20 mins thinking what else to say, but I'm stumped.

Great rhymes in DW. I esp. like the half-rhyme of dismissive and kisses. The poem paints a strong character profile, down to the domestic chores which only narrowly keep one from wallowing in regret and the knowledge of how past affects present. Good work.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the recent comment. I feel like that poem sounds a little naive now because I wrote it five years ago - but I guess that's exactly what it's about. I see what you mean about that 'wife and mother' line as well; but I included it because I know that's what she hoped for in her future - at least back then. Thanks again! Thom

Hi Val,
thanks for commenting on 'Zebrina'.
These are the kind of poems i enjoy writing. I wasn't sure if it needed to be included at the end of the poem itself that Zebrina is a plant, as a twist for performance purposes. I always feel if the explanation is given before it spoils the end result but sometimes the kind applause comes before we have time to explain .
Hope that makes some kind of sense.
What do you think?

Hi Cate,
thanks for your comment on 'Metal Tiger Roars in.'
To be honest there wasn't much actual research done, it's a subject i'm interested in so was aware of the animals associated with the Chinese horoscopes.
I did work hard though on the syllable counts and trying to make it an interesting read for others too. I appreciate your feedback and if it's going to be performed i suppose i better do it soon or it will no longer be a valid subject. :-)

Miranda sounds intriguing, John. Amazing who you bump into on the net. I've gone back to the Sandy Denny poem because I wasn't happy with it and am trying to improve it, to do her a bit more justice. Haven't managed to work in the one- night stand with Hendrix yet, though. Greg

Thanks for your message, Isobel. It's true, working on a paper over the years has usually been absorbing and always kept me on my toes. But I rediscovered poetry a few years ago after not writing any since my teens, and am lured by the things it expresses that journalism can't. You may be surprised to know that I find time to monitor WOL fairly regularly, even at work! It keeps me thinking about poetry every day. (Sounds a bit like a laxative?) Greg
