Hi Anthony - hope you can make it (Poetry Mine) one day - and thanks for letting me know. At the moment it is such an unknown - will anyone turn up at all? But I am looking forward to it. I think . . . . :)

Hi Ann,

I hope all is well with you. Just to let you know that I won't be able to make St. Agnes next Tuesday as I will be away in Cumbria. I was really looking forward to your event and to meeting you. Nevertheless I wish you great success with the evening and hope that there might be a repeat - which I will be free for!

Best regards and sincere apologies,

A.E. X

Hi Isobel. Thanks for your comment. I'd never read The Highwayman so I looked it up. It's amazing, certainly there's a surprisingly similar theme but I'm enormously flattered you'd make any comparisons between the writing in Noyes work and my own effort. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I feel I should get the hang of traditional structures before I would be confident to try something more contemparary, maybe it's a bit of a security blanket!

Ha - you know me too well! I wasn't saying ridiculous - it's just that experimental poetry of that type isn't my bag. Poetry has to move me, make me think, make me laugh. If it doesn't do that then it's missed the mark. Luckily, I am just one opinion and there a million out there who differ. So will you be building a nasty pile of bricks on the canal bank, any time soon?

Hi Greg, Interesting isn't it how, when you know the source material it makes you see different things. And if you then relate to that material in one way or another then you see yet more. Frankly I hope chelsea make things interesting at the top this year. Thanks for your comments. Win

Barefoot Self... I thought I had to tell you that like Coromandel & Visiting Neil by Anthony Emmerson, (and some others) this poem goes beyond the realms of good/really good and for me attains something else close to perfection. I also don't know whether you know yourself what you've got here, but for me it's a masterpiece like Coromandel. It's not just great it's fabulous because you've gone beyond cleverness & wit & beauty & have successfully encapsulated emotions & your words are able to re-awaken those emotions, which I think is very rare. Being blunt (& serious for once) - tell me yourself - do you realise yourself just how good this is ? I'm genuinely interested. XX B

Isobel, once I said to a very clever friend, "I take 'umption' with your attitude." The word wasn't past my teeth, when I tried to drag it back, and failed. And he hollered with joy: 'MALAPROPISM - HAHAHAHA!' and then he laughed for ten years at least. Ah, well, we're still good friends.

'lo Cynth :)

Astute? Moi? Don't get called that very often! ;D

Re my right knuckles - it's 'make'. I found a tube of orange dayglo paint at a festie in July and went a bit mad with it. The 'borstal dots' first, then a smiley face on my face, and then got all inspired cos you see a lot of 'love' and 'hate' homemade tattoos on a certain generation of men, so after long inebriated thought, I went with 'make' and 'love' :D

Then I forgot about it and didn't let it dry so it smeared everywhere, doh!

Heh - glad it's not just me who ends up tearing their hair out sometimes on damned words.

Laura, you are so astute. I didn't just 'fiddle' with the last verse, I nearly tore out my hair - would I or wouldn't I include it? Finally, I decided to go with it, for another 'dimension' maybe, for absolute clarification of intent, but the 'pulling power' of the other four verses is definitely compromised. If we were face to face, privately, I would be even more honest.

What is written on your right fist? Is it 'fake'?

Dave - I owe you an apology.
I recently posted a blog entitled Poetry Slam which was based on an idea I had in my head. I knew I'd got the idea from somewhere but couldn't remember where - a film, a book?
I've just discovered it was from your discussion thread A Slam with a Difference.
My poem is virtually plagiarism (although I didn't know it) and I apologise.

I reckon the hardest thing is getting a publisher interested - there are lots of super writers on WOL who deserve to be published, but it's not easy. If you had poems with illustrations like those I reckon you'd have a much better chance - only my 2 cents though :)
good luck with it. B

Hey fantastic!! :D Which one/s did Full of Crow accept? I'll have to have a look. Haha, they just rejected 5 of mine so have doggedly sent them another 5 :D

I was so excited I put mine on me biog on here heh. I got into Feathertale online, plus their actual book - a Best Of coming out early next year, with Biting The Bullet! I get a copy of the book for payment so still have to buy me own chips, like ;) I got into RedFez too, with Write for Revolution, and that's just online but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, innit?!

Waiting on bloody loads more - have got a few more links for you too, so will email them to you.

Nice one, well done - knew you'd get published!
