The Voice of Integrity

 

The voice of integrity

Is the voice of poetry

Not the voice of opinion

But the voice of dissent

 

The poet writes from the heart

His very soul cries out

He rails against injustice

And applauds courage

 

The poet seeks for the truth

He cuts away the undergrowth of deceit

The poet is driven by his conscience

He cannot remain silent

 

The poet is not a journalist

Nor is he a politician

He has no interest in monetary gain

He is sacrificial in his endeavours

 

The poet is the voice of the voiceless

He challenges the deceitful

He exposes wrong doing

He points his finger and quill

 

The poet cannot be silent

Nor can he be silenced

If murdered for his work

His poems live on

 

The poet is an uncomfortable bedfellow

He refuses to acquiesce or appease

He does not let go or retreat

He is assidious in his labours

 

The poet loves the created order

He writes with passion of beauty and courage

He extols every virtue

He supports the downtrodden

 

The poet has only pen and paper

These can survive the test of time

He lives amongst the humble and the mighty

He is the voice of integrity
