SCHADENFREUDE

Schadenfreude: a despicable word

The fact it exists makes it more absurd

'Pleasure derived from the woes of another'

Is that how we humans treat each other?

Where went compassion and empathy?

Have our morals regressed to such a degree?

Concur I do with Mark Twain's analogue:

'The more I learn of people, the more I love my dog!

Chrystel, having lived with dogs
exclusively for 20 plus years,
I agree whole heartedly.

I love the passion of this and have to agree with all that you say here. I think sadly there are so many people who are wrapped up in their own worlds , totally unaware of anybody else.
Well put
Nice one

You write a great poem here. I have used the word before but perhaps incorrectly.

Chrystel,

morals have sadly declined along with attitudes. I have two adorable dogs and have fallen out with most so called friends and family.

German words can sound unkind, simply by their guttural pronounciation. Who would have thought that Ausgezeichnet means excellent. Sounds more like a death sentence.

Thank you for this
Keith

Hey Ruth,

Yeah, good old Mark Twain; I'm a great fan of his work...

I have a keyring with that quote "the more people I meet, the more I love my dog!" I didn't realise it was Mark Twain who originally said it.
