Latent Talent

There are budding scientists

and fledgling artists

who cannot be heard

because they live

in what is called

the Third World

We are deprived

of their potential and talent

because they live

in poverty with

no hope or grace

This is a disgrace

We send money

to Third World dictators

who are oblivious

to progress and beauty

They care only for themselves

and their booty

May vengance be

their cursed foe

as bright young

men and women

in the Third World

have far to go

◄ Do me in....

An emotive subject to be sure. To some degree or other we are all
at the mercy of our origins but there has never been a time in all
history when the chances of breaking out have been so widely
available, with global media fuelling the situation and travel a
seemingly integral part of life for many, using whatever means or
opportunity they can muster.
The Bible poses the question: Am I my brother's keeper? In short,
how far does anyone go to affect the life of another wherever and
whenever that question arises? It also contains a quote attributed
to Christ himself: The poor are always with us. That much cannot
be denied although it is also relative to place and circumstance in
today's world and freedom is found where it never previously
existed - something to encourage at every opportunity in the hope
of improving the quality of life across the globe..

Many times in the western world money is wasted on a trivial throwaway society. If these genius' whose only fault has happened to be where they were born, had even a fraction of that wealth they would put it to a greater use.

Good poem Keith, more needs to be said on this topic.

Well said but the problem is deep rooted.Actually poverty is a worldwide curse.Capitalism is fuelling these social curses.Poverty looms large even in this decade. Its our inability or callousness that is refraining us from removing poverty, hunger. And the tragedy is that these dictators are being given a platform to carry on their oppression, plunder from time immemorial.
