Leon Redbone

We don't know

who you are man

but man can you

play guitar

with fine finesse

and black mustache

a showman's

what you are

that snazzy hat

part of your act

the mystery of

black shades

we tap our feet

to your blues beat

hope the music

never fades

the usual

ain't what you do

it's all part of

an act

yodelladyhoo

out of the blue

a flashback

to the past

remember Groucho

pulled our leg

you remind us

of the same

we don't know nothin'

'bout you man

but you sure

did entertain.

JC - it amazes me that his name has never been known to me, having a wide-ranging taste in music, but now that I've heard some
of his song performances (YouTube) I will be checking his available
CDs. I can see why his guitar and singing would get you writing
your appreciation on WOL. His voice is (to me) a mix of Dean
Martin and Pat Boone with the best of both...and ideal for the sort
of material he chose to sing. Thanks for the pointer in his direction -
although perhaps a case of "better late than never". At least he
was well known enough to appear on prominent US talk shows -
itself a measure of fame in the often ephemeral entertainment business. Cheers!

His greatest exposure in the UK was the accompanying music for InterCity.

Whoa d.k. - great epitaph.
Strangely I hadn't crossed his path on my journey through the decades but to any one not familiar with his stuff try this -
