Favourite Shoes

My dad's favourite shoes

He saved them for best

He wore them just once

As we laid him to rest

Dedicated to the loving memory of Jack Evans; love you dad x

The connection between human life, its hope and belief,
and harsh reality is poignantly portrayed in these short
lines. This has many forms and the shoes here have
a comforting "history" with the items placed with the
departed across the borders of faith and country.

Beautifully simple Luke . My own dad knowing he was terminally ill bought a pair of shoes saying to me that he was going on a journey. My mum took them back to the shop quite soon afterwards. He never wore them.

A very powerful message to all of us who keep things for 'best' - when exactly is that 'best' ever going to come?
I'm getting those shoes out of the cupboard right now! Thanks
