If I Ruled The World...

If I could recreate the world

I'd do it so damn differently

I'd create a masterplan

To stamp out infidelity

I'd give each soul 100 years

With years to be subtracted

Severity decided, by who you wronged

And how you acted

It would depend upon your misdemeanours

How many years you'll lose

If you dip your nib in the office ink

Your wife will get to choose

Same rules apply for women folk

If you seduce the plumber

Your hubby gets to be the one

To reduce your magic number

So let the sinners keep on sinning

And the saints will surely thrive

The men folk dead by fifty

The women fifty five

wow a very powerful well written poem..and such an interesting idea.......of how a person would rule the world.........for me stanzas 2 and final stanza particularly powerful......the whole poem sounds very serious ideas....then final stanza i sense a change....a shift ..some humour and wit and sarcasm....sounds like my perfect world....created in your powerful words and imagination....i agree with it all

Nice Helen! It's so fitting that you have women living five years longer haha ;)

Enjoyed this, Helen. If it catches on, so might celibacy.

I think infidelity is good for the soul
And keeps you on your toes
Take nothing for granted
Own but little of this mundane world
Yes, even people are disappointing
When we have high expectations
Let us embrace polygamy
And therby expel the jealousy
That binds us in Hell!

Very witty. More mellow than The Visitor but equally as good. Nice one,
