For a Friend

This is the beginning,

the birth;

in fast/slow motion,

the start of your new amour.

A loving for your all;

devotion, just for you.

In the day before today,

in the day after tomorrow,

in the core of all your sorrow,

my mind will walk with yours.

In the light of your depth,

in the face of your strength,

in the reach of your knowledge,

in the warmth of your smile,

in the arc of your arms,

in your tension of thought,

in the heat of your tears,

in the flame of your truth,

in the tracks of your past,

in your plough of tomorrow…

friends will remain,

daylight prevail,

shadow subside.

Your love, for you,

will rise

and walk

with ours.

great poem, beautifully expressed and truth of the importance of friendship x

makes me think of the kahlil gibran idea that i often criticise in my poetry. That of joy being sorrow unmasked. the idea that the deeper sorrow can bury in to your heart, then the more love it can contain. i get angry with this idea sometimes, but only cos i know its true and it 'oftentimes' fills me with peace.
I think it relates here as friendship/love has its opposite, which fight against each other, as in all love/hate throughout everything all time. Your poem speaks of the natural fight between defence and trust. I like the reference to birth with the friendship as a new beginning/state of being.

its all in the yin yang, man ;)

'your love for you will rise and walk with ours' x

Some really beautiful sentiments expressed, Laura...
My favourite lines:

'In the day before today,
in the day after tomorrow,
in the core of all your sorrow,
my mind will walk with yours.'

Thanks folks :) Yes indeedy, friends are hugely important, for so many reasons. As Harper Lee once wrote, you can choose your friends but you sure can't choose your family...

Friends ARE kin, to me

A lovely, lovely poem Laura - full of love and binding loyalty.

Your love, for you,
will rise
and walk
with ours.

Beautiful words to finish with. Value of self combined with the value of others - what more could you wish for a friend. x

Outstanding. It works well, poetically , but the optimism about love and friendship which radiates through it is very very heart-warming and that's what really makes it. Wow factor indeed
