freedom - no such thing

I can’t imagine freedom.

Everything comes with a price.

Take love.

Love comes with the biggest price of all.

“Will you die before the morning

my beloved?

For I can never sleep

knowing that there is doubt.”

“Do you still love me?

As much as I love you?

My heart is in knots of anguish,

for I can never know the answer.”

So this is all there is -

pain pain pain.

The biggest price of all.

But . . .

freedom from love?

If we are freed from love

then life has no meaning at all

my beloved.

Life has no meaning.

So, between love and freedom

what will you choose?

For I have no answer.

freedom

Everything is at risk and desperate hearts on parade and more besides in this piece. Dug deep, well done you. Win x

I found your poem very touching and true. It's quite a pared down piece and that makes for a greater impact in what you are saying.

Thank you ladies both. Isobel - re choice - yes we do have the freedom to chose on many levels. But I do think that the initial "in love" thing, whether for the newborn or the lover, makes us feel we have lost our freedom, for a while perhaps with the lover, for our children it probably lasts a lifetime. xx

There is a lot of truth in this and yet....
There are levels of freedom, I think. Freedom to me means choice. The right to exercise one's own will. Love is a temporary blinder/binder. We all enjoy day to day freedom and liberties which we really take for granted.

This poem is so true Ann. Even first two lines is a poem. "I can't imagine freedom. Everything comes with a price." The wisest words.
With love and warmest wishes, Larisa

A bit of a negative one! I think I was inspired by remembering the feeling you have when you've just given birth to your baby. The love makes you vulnerable. But it makes you strong too. Makes the world go round - and all that jazz! x
