'Lobscouse'

entry picture

My very favourite meal it has to be said.

Is a bowl of scouse with crusty bread!

And where do I get my Scouse from?

Bexley’s Craft Butcher’s from Old Swan!

I buy it from The Anglican Cathedral too.

Our very own famous Liverpool stew!

Beef or lamb…which do you prefer.

As long as its Scouse, I don’t really care!

So, thank you sailors from days gone by.

I’m sure you all know the reason why.

As they brought ‘Lobscouse’ to our shore.

A delicious, cheap meal that fed the poor!

In harder times, when pennies were few.

‘Blind Scouse’ was served and had to do.

A Blind Scouse meal was totally meat free.

So just veg and spuds were served for tea!

Hot, filling Lobscouse, we took to our heart.

In our history, Lobscouse played a big part!

Gradually, we dropped ‘Lob’ from the name.

Then over the years, ‘Scousers’ we became!

Thank you for your great comments...freezing in Liverpool today, so I'll treat myself to some scouse from Bexley's today!

I'm the world's worst cook, sorry I wouldn't know the best recipe for scouse (haha or for anything else for that matter when it comes to it!))

I've learned something from this, Mike. Mind you, I reckon that, with the right marketing, Veggie Blind Scouse could be big in Hampstead or Islington, or wherever the trendies hang about these days!

Never had scouse, Mike, but I’m prepared to believe that like corned beef hash it’s tasty, nutritious and heart warming.

Thanks Mike, I've been in the Anglican one too, mighty impressive!
I've not had any breakfast yet, and you've got my appetite going...do you have a genuine recipe?
