Give us all Your Money!

entry picture

Give us all your money,

Then go and find some more;

Try borrowing from loan sharks

To maximise your score.

Steal it from the corner shop

Or from your parents’ stash;

With every tempting wager,

We’ll part you from your cash.

Your chances of a pay-out

Are vanishingly thin;

You might as well take out your wad

And chuck it in the bin.

Your bank account is in the red,

Your credit rating’s up the spout;

We value all our customers

Until they are cleaned out!

BUT PLEASE! GAMBLE RESPONSIBLY.

My thanks to Manish, Keith, 7eVen and John C for your comments and support. All the 'gamble responsibly' nonsense masks the fact that the whole industry's business model is based on people betting (and losing) more than they can afford. As you say, Keith, lotteries are a giant con, hiding behind 'good causes' which governments should fund themselves.

And thanks to Aisha, Tom, Hugh, Pete, Stephen A, Tim, Bethany, Holden and Rob for liking.

Of course they want you to gamble responsibly. You’re no good to them when you’re cleaned out. It’s called cashflow.
I also love the way they’re trying to double the cash pool by targeting women.
Excellent stuff, Stephen.

A poem which resonates with my loathing of gambling. I refuse to dabble in any form of this exploitive business. All Government Lotteries are a tax on the poor, who buy tickets with what little they have only to win nothing.
A wake up poem.
Thanks,
Keith
