Davos

They’re performing a foxtrot in Davos,

The great and the good are crossing the floor;

While deep in Ukraine, with little to gain,

The dance is wilder than ever before.

The movers and shakers are out in force,

They move their careers and their buyback bids;

While near to Kyiv, with little to give,

Old jackets are shaken to feed the kids.

Designer shoppers and vegans frolic,

They travel by limo or private jets;

While on the border, processed to order,

Refugees, desperate, clutch on to pets.

However they spin, the setting is smug,

Although the intentions may be sincere.

To those at the front, it seems an odd stunt,

Which brings precious little comfort and cheer.

Thanks to Keith, Kealen and MC for these fascinating comments.
For my part, my main objection to the WEF is that it looks so bad and I'm surprised that the (many) decent people who attend can't see it. Speakers fly in by private jet and lecture the world about climate change. Maybe a virtual session would be better.

Very grateful for your kind words.

The style of rhyme and content is spot on for this subject.
Is the title "World Economic Forum" a blind for the old secretive
well-guarded Bilderberger meetings? Or "Bilderbuggers" as I
thought of them since they seemed busy giving the rest of us
a poke up the arse in pursuit of their ideas for world domination
via wealth and influence.

The only sincerity in the wef is that they're sincere about have a global tyrannical medical dictatorship. Children are eating bugs in a Welsh school while those in Davos feast on steaks. Just look at whose there. I wish ppl would wake up before it's too late and stop.us9ng Ukraine like a playground to try out their new weapons at the expense of innocent Ukrainian lives.. Our 'leaders' do not have out best interest in mind.

Stephen,
This poem reminds me of a documentary I saw some years ago. It depicted a scene from the New York Stock Exchange where people were frenetic in their activity to create wealth. Juxtaposed was a scene from a small African village where a young man who should have been in school was making mud bricks to build a house for his mother as his father had recently passed away. Two worlds so far apart but on the same planet.
A good poem, well crafted and thought provoking indeed.
Thank you for this
Keith

Superb satire. The jolly tone is brilliantly at odds with the message, Stephen. Amazing stuff!

Many thanks, Julie, Carol and John.

In a way, I feel quite bad about this, as there are many well-meaning, liberal people who attend Davos. However, I have always found the spectacle of the rich and well-connected networking in this Alpine bubble to be rather off-putting. Perhaps inadvertantly, the cosy nature of it gives a bad impression of politics and business.

And thanks to Frederick, Rudyard, Stephen, Holden, Hugh and Reggie's Ghost for the likes.

Another great one Stephen. I just wish you didn’t have so much to write about. 😢
