IT'S FOR THE GUN WE SPEAK

entry picture

“We’ve tears still to be cried at night; we’ve hands still to be wrung;

The pain is now and ever for the grieving of our young

Your talk of “thoughts and prayers” sticks like bile on our tongue.”

As every white boy redneck in a truck or on a farm

Brandishes a metal penis nary care nor qualm

And bellows his assertion on his right to carry arms.

“Try not to be so selfish making out you’re so unique;

There’ll be a dozen more or so for you to grieve next week;

It isn’t for the children but it’s for The Gun we speak”

“Perhaps if every teacher in each class could wear a gun

Or maybe if each child could take to school his daddy’s gun”

Does nothing make you think that you’re addicted to The Gun?

From Sandy Hook in Newtown that took place ten years ago

To ten years later murder of ten blacks in Buffalo

And now today Uvalde.

Have you learned much?

Fuck No.

JC - do remember that in this country government offered salutary condign punishment in exchange for the act of the
population in giving up their firearms back in the day when they
were .- and for countless years had been - lawfully held. Check
for example, old f/arms cunningly disguised in various ways..
But in typical deceitful political style, the protection of the law
has been steadily eroded down the years until it now merely
pays lip service to punishment and, instead, offers huge
satisfaction to the "we are all guilty" brigade who see no evil and hear no evil. let alone admit that evil actually exists! The,
US on the other hand, has a somewhat less gullible attitude to what is promised and rigorously defends their enshrined citizens rights., whatever the cost in sporadic albeit tragic individual terms. Their evolution was far quicker - and harsher
as a consequence - and they are prepared to pay its cost...from the
fight for independence through various
subsequent conflicts across its vast
continent in a relatively short period of history, always mindful of all the many sacrifices made along the way.

Yes, I saw that report, MC. It follows the solution is therefore to arm everyone in the US. Hang on though, they’ve already got 120 guns per 100 people. This should eliminate the problem. Hang on though, they seem to have the greatest number of gun deaths per population in the world.

Mercifully we do not have a statistically big gun crime problem in this country. But knife crime is. Perhaps we should encourage everyone to carry a knife so the good guys can be on hand to stab the bad guys.

Gun ownership in the USA took a sudden turn in a positive sense
(if that can be said) when it's reported today that an armed
woman (not law enforcement) shot dead a criminal armed with
an AK-47 type weapon who had opened fire on a crowd in her
presence. No charges are contemplated by West Virginia authorities. The woman was legally entitled to carry a weapon
and her victim was a man with criminal convictions. He was prohibited by law from possessing his weapon and no explanation is available about how he obtained it. (Surprise, surprise!) Now,
about the much touted subject of "gun control"..........?

In one sense I think you are right, MC. Anyone who blows the brains out of schoolkids has to have something wrong with them upstairs. But not everyone who has something wrong with them upstairs feels the need to blow the brains out of kids.
Do the 50 Republican senators who refuse to address gun laws have something wrong with them upstairs or are they defending their personal state majorities?
Were the militiamen who stormed the White House all drugged up or suffering from 21st century stress?
Whatever happened to personal responsibility or even not committing murder?
And thanks for the Likes, Hugh and Bethany.

Agree about the absurdity of availability of assault rifles and the like. But I can't agree about the casual dismissal of drug abuse and mental health. The concern about over-prescription of
certain drugs in a psychiatry-dominated culture is also a matter
that needs urgent consideration. These can only exacerbate the
distorted dangerous-to-deadly activity indulged in by certain
clearly unbalanced individuals driven by their own demons to
do what they do.

Thanks for your thoughts, Stephen and MC.
I suppose in a country of 300,000,000 there's bound to be a number of barmpots who would want to murder schoolkids, blacks or Jews. And I don't think drug use and mental health issues is much of an explanation. Why on earth anyone would feel the need to buy assault rifles and kevlar vests is beyond me. We all got a glimpse of where this might lead in January of last year.

The proper teaching of the need for disciplined respect for a
deadly weapon is paramount in the prevention of its misuse,
not least in a huge country that was born out of armed revolution
against the perception of overweening state power. Today's
ongoing dilemma is the current malaise of drug abuse and mental
health issues - often connected in a society that seems ill at ease
with itself., a deadly recipe for repeated examples of deranged
behaviour.

The West is still wild John. And tragically always will be I fear. The right to... buy a sub machine gun, purely for home security of course ! Ridiculous

Give them assault rifles, that’s what I say, Stephen.

I think you said it, John. The 'right' to bear arms? What about the 'rights' of those children and teachers?
