The register call and seating plan of Form 1A, Henry Mellish GS and the first column of three comprising a class of 30, all of us aged 11.  Well, we’ll all be 69 now, one or two even 70.

It’s a mantra I’ve never forgotten, like your times tables or service number.  I remember their faces too and their voices, but as kids.  I doubt if we passed in the street we’d recognise one another now.

I wonder too how many wear hearing aids or are riddled with arthritis or are cripples of some description; or, indeed, how many are dead.

Time is, indeed, The Cruellest Thief.

“How terribly strange to be 70”.

I have done a deal with God, Stephen; he won’t come for me till I’ve read all my books. But I’ve outflanked him - I keep them topped up from the charity shops.

They say 70 is the new 60, John! So if you're booked in to pop yer clogs at 80, you'll actually live until you're 90! Happy days, Happy Birthday ?

And deny the world my senile awkwardness? Not bloody likely, MC.

I always enjoy the age-related comments from you young sprogs.
Did you hope to die before you got old? ?

What’s ironic is that Simon and Garfunkel will also know how terribly strange it is to be 70, Graham.
Thanks for the Likes, Stephen and Holden.
