THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

entry picture

Don’t mind

boozing in illicit bars

We’ll find

a rave and drive there in our cars

Cos this whole quarantine

Just applies to has-beens

But it’s not for us teens

Cos the kids are alright.

Don’t mind

meeting up with other guys

I’m fine

if later some old gimmer dies

From the plague that I spread

Just one more old git dead

I’m OK, cos it’s said

That the kids are alright.

Sometimes

I like to break this boring gloom

Then I

will sneak out from my college room

But I’ll carry the scar

That I've bid au revoir

To my nan and grandpa

But the kids are alright.

I signed

the warrant for their Covid deaths

Drank wine

with friends while they gasped for their breath

No-one gave me a clue

That they’d die from this flu

Alone in ICU

But the kids are alright.

Thanks, Trevor. I shall pretend I wrote this if I do it at Open Mic sometime when we get the all-clear.

I don't mind,
If others boys are dancing with my girl
It's alright
She's not one to kiss and tell

But I know
Sometimes I must get out in the light
If she's spreads it around
Is that really alright???

You're quite right, Dawn. This is huge generalisation. But often generalisations have a kernel of truth which enables them to stand up. You don't, for instance, hear of the police breaking up Old Age Pensioners' 5 o'clock tea dances for breaking Covid rules.

I believe you nailed the tone and sentiment here. Admittedly, I do not share it, but I could see from your minds eye the way you put this together and ... It makes me think...
Thank you

Thanks, MC. Not that inventive, though. You’ll recognise The Who classic.
And Aviva, I’m not sure the shops in the mall would welcome my angelic tones gurgling out all day long. Thanks for the Like, Julie.

This should be on someone's "Desert Island Discs" selection to
remind the guest (and the rest of us) of what happens in so-called civilisation and "the madding crowd". Inventive and incisive - a great combination.

Thanks, guys. I've heard it said that the kids have got it hardest because they are bearing the brunt of the economic slump. But I'd certainly swap that for a hundred=fold better chance of survival!

I've got quite a short memory, so apologies to anyone offended and I might be mistaken, but I think this might be my favourite Covid-19 poem yet! I wish it was possible to have it broadcast in shopping centres and town squares all over the country. More of a vac-sing than a vaccine but perhaps just as effective.

Working title: the kids are allwankers? But, you're right John, there are those who only think of themselves & are either too dumb to realise what they're doing, or just ignorant & uncaring.
