A Bell and a Boy

There's a big iron bell on the roof of the barn
that is used to call men from wherever they are:
from the fields, from mending the fences
from tending the cows in distant pastures.

There's a boy who likes adventure,
to find interesting places and things.
He likes to explore different places alone,
to go wherever he will near home.

Call him home from the forest, farm bell.
Call him back from the creek, old bell.
Call him home where he knows he is loved
by his family who teach him
to explore new skills and ideas,
and to make his mark on the world.

Tom,
We actually lived for 44 years in Chapel Hill, NC in a house we dreamed and had built. The house had an office we both worked in. We sold it in 2007. The cottage is at Kerr Lake, an hour's drive away. Many memories came from there. We had to sell it in 2015

Wow, David what a great life to have led (and are continuing to lead). I'm going to really enjoy working through your writing and finding more treasures. I'd love to build my own home and live by the water. Seems like an impossible dream here in modern-day UK but... we'll have to see. ?

Tom, I lived an a farm but the family ties were colleges and a liberal church. I learned the value exploring ideas and skills that have served me well in my 95 years. I became a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, working with my wife. We also built our own A-frame cottage by a lake, traveled abroad and camped, including going the length of Grand Canyon 3 times by oar powered boats.

This is intriguing David. I like the style and the feel. Reminds me of my mum calling me back from my adventure at the bottom of the garden as a child.

I’m left wanting to know about what was discovered.
