I wish I could daydream like I did when I was a kid
when I was sat in primary school
bored out of my head
no teacher ever really got to me
I had daydreams only
occasionally they would be broken
on a rainy morning
when I'd see a mate strolling late
past the school gates

Steve stepped onto the met
and was immediately recognised
by another inspector
who greeted him with,
"Fuck me! How have you got a day off?"
I can't remember how Steve replied exactly
but I remember him being amused
and happy to see his chirpy colleague.
They talked loudly above the wailing
of the met along the tracks.
